Current Opportunities

Mission Possible is currently hiring Community Coach & Organizers in rural and metropolitan locations across Missouri (5-6 locations). This is a hybrid role with light travel.

About the Role

The Community Coach & Organizer helps turn Mission Possible's vision into local reality by developing the leaders, relationships, and organizing infrastructure needed for communities to deliberate and act together.

Your job is not to lead neighborhood groups yourself. Your job is to find, develop, and coach the people who will.

You will typically coach several Community Group Leaders within your assigned region, helping them recruit members, build trust, develop leadership skills, facilitate deliberation, and move their groups toward meaningful community action.

This is a deeply relational role, but relationships are built for a purpose. Success depends on listening well, understanding local community dynamics, developing local leaders, and helping communities move from conversation to coordinated action.

This role is ideal for someone who is energized by developing leaders, building community, and helping people solve shared problems together.

Community Coach & Organizers are expected to build sustainable volunteer leadership rather than carry the work themselves. Success comes from developing local leaders who increasingly own and lead the work within their communities.

Work Schedule & Expectations

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 25 hours per week. Work is flexible and primarily self-directed. Because our work happens in communities, regular evening availability and occasional weekend work are expected. Weekly hours will naturally fluctuate based on community meetings, outreach, and special events.

Measures of Success

Within the 6 months, successful Community Coach & Organizers will typically:

Recruit and develop 8-12 Community Group Leaders.
Launch and sustain 4-6 healthy Community Groups within their assigned region.
Maintain an average of 8-15 active participants per Community Group.
Develop relationships with 10-20 local organizations, institutions, or community partners.
Help at least 75% of Community Groups participate in a structured community deliberation.
Support at least 75% of Community Groups in completing one meaningful community action aligned with Mission Possible's Shared Goals.
Develop emerging leaders so that at least one additional leader is being cultivated within every Community Group.

Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and Lead Local Volunteer Leadership

Perform outreach and networking to identify and recruit leaders
Coach leaders through ongoing leadership development and civic education using Mission Possible's training resources.
Foster a culture of shared ownership, accountability, and support
Coach leaders as they launch and grow their neighborhood groups
Help leaders in identify and cultivate future leaders in their own group

Support Neighborhood Group Growth

Support groups through challenges, leadership transitions, and growth
Guide neighborhood groups through deliberation and into meaningful action
Help volunteers discover meaningful ways to contribute and grow into leadership

Build Community Relationships

Develop relationships with local organizations, institutions, and community stakeholders
Help group leaders build partnerships that strengthen their work
Stay connected to the needs and opportunities within your region

Guide Community Deliberation

Support leaders in planning and facilitating structured community discussions
Help groups explore issues thoughtfully, consider diverse perspectives, and identify areas of shared concern
Guide groups through the process of moving from discussion and learning toward collective action
Ensure deliberative processes remain respectful, inclusive, and aligned with Mission Possible's principles

Help Build the Movement

Provide additional support when volunteer capacity is temporarily limited while returning ownership to volunteers as quickly as possible.
Create systems and pathways that encourage volunteers to take ownership.
Share lessons learned to strengthen Mission Possible's organizing model.
Support Community Groups in grassroots fundraising and community investment efforts.

Who we’re looking for

Coach & Leader Developer - You enjoy helping others grow into leadership and know how to support without taking over. You find satisfaction in seeing volunteers succeed and take ownership.

Community Organizer - You know how to bring people together, build trust across differences, develop volunteer leaders, and organize communities to move from conversation to coordinated action around shared goals.

Strong Facilitator - You communicate clearly, facilitate productive conversations, and help groups navigate differing perspectives while staying focused on shared goals.

Organized & Self-Directed - You can manage multiple priorities while maintaining momentum and clarity.

Builder's Mindset - You are comfortable with ambiguity, energized by building something new, and committed to shared ownership.

Additional Requirements

Must reside in and regularly travel throughout the assigned area.
Must have reliable transportation.
Comfortable working a flexible schedule, including regular evenings and occasional weekends.
Able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 10 pounds.
Committed to supporting Mission Possible's nonpartisan mission and working constructively with people across political, ideological, and cultural differences.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas is helpful:

Community organizing or grassroots leadership
Volunteer management or leadership development
Civic engagement, advocacy, or campaign experience
Group facilitation, coalition-building, or community partnerships
Nonprofit, educational, faith-based, or community organizations
Knowledge of civic institutions and democratic processes

This role is ideal for someone who is energized by possibility, comfortable with uncertainty, and excited to help build a new model for strengthening communities and democratic self-government.

Pay: $39,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
