Heavy Equipment Operator – Heavy Highway Construction
Location: Jessup, MD
Compensation: $30-$40 per hour depending on experience!
Richard E. Pierson Construction Co. is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team on a heavy highway construction project in Jessup, MD. We are looking for dependable, safety-focused operators with experience running heavy construction equipment in a fast-paced heavy civil environment.
This position requires operators who can safely and efficiently operate equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, rollers, and other heavy machinery while working alongside crews to complete highway and site development projects.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, rollers, articulated haul trucks, and other construction equipment.
- Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, trenching, and material handling in accordance with project plans and specifications.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and directions from supervisors.
- Work safely around underground utilities, structures, traffic, and other equipment.
- Assist with routine maintenance and basic servicing of assigned equipment.
- Communicate effectively with foremen, grade checkers, laborers, and other operators to ensure efficient project execution.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in heavy highway, heavy civil, or site construction.
- Proficiency operating excavators, bulldozers, and other heavy construction equipment.
- Experience with grading, excavation, utility work, road construction, or earthwork preferred.
- Ability to work from grade stakes, laser levels, and project specifications.
- Strong commitment to safety and safe equipment operation.
- Reliable transportation to the Jessup, MD project site.
- Valid driver’s license required (CDL is a plus).
- Ability to work overtime and occasional Saturdays as project schedules require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on DOT, roadway, bridge, or heavy highway projects.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (preferred).
- Experience working around underground utilities and active construction traffic.
- Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment.
