Scudder Roofing is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Payroll Specialist to join our growing team. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring accurate payroll processing, certified payroll compliance, prevailing wage reporting, and adherence to California labor laws.

What You'll Do Payroll Administration & Compliance

Process payroll accurately and on time
Manage certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage compliance for public works projects
Ensure compliance with California payroll laws, labor regulations, wage and hour requirements, and tax obligations
Maintain payroll records, employee deductions, garnishments, levies, and tax filings
Process and manage wage garnishments in compliance with federal and California regulations
Support year-end payroll processing, W-2 preparation, and payroll reconciliations

Reporting & Audits

Audit payroll data for accuracy and resolve discrepancies promptly
Prepare payroll reports for management, accounting, and external audits
Assist with certified payroll audits and prevailing wage documentation
Ensure payroll records are organized, accurate, and audit-ready

Cross-Department Collaboration

Partner with Human Resources regarding employee deductions, benefits, compensation changes, and payroll-related matters
Coordinate with Accounting on payroll reporting, reconciliations, and compliance requirements
Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and efficiently
Stay current on payroll regulations, labor laws, and compliance updates

What We're Looking For Required Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of payroll processing experience
Minimum 4 years of public works, certified payroll, and prevailing wage reporting experience
Strong knowledge of California payroll laws, payroll taxes, wage and hour regulations, and compliance requirements
Experience processing payroll in the construction, roofing, or related industries preferred
Proficiency with payroll software systems and Microsoft Excel
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information professionally
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Required: English proficiency.Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish (not required).
