Job Summary

Are you a payroll professional who takes pride in getting it right — every time? At Miller Transfer, your accuracy directly impacts every person on our team.

We are a stable heavy haul transportation company that has been operating since 1968, and we are looking for a detail-driven Payroll specialist to become a key part of our finance team in Rootstown, Ohio. This position in on site at our headquarters working Monday -Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm with an hour lunch break.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Payroll Specialist to join our accounting team. This vital role involves managing payroll processes, driver settlements, and related financial activities to ensure accurate and timely compensation for our drivers and staff.

The ideal candidate will be a well rounded, flexible finance professional who enjoys a busy multi-tasking environment, possess strong technical skills, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality, accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities:

Prepare weekly payroll for company personnel, including timecard review, expense validation, benefit and deduction accuracy, and submission of withholding payments.
Process daily payments to independent contractors', ensuring accurate deduction of advances, insurance, escrow, and other withholdings.
Maintain and reconcile independent contractors' escrow and deduction accounts.
Respond to contractor inquiries regarding settlements, deductions, and payment status in a timely and professional manner.
Review state permit data entry and complete monthly reconciliations.
Perform daily cash application and prepare bank deposits.
Assist with preparation and distribution of W-2 and 1099 forms.
Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Experience Desired:

Associates Degree in Accounting
2+ years of experience in payroll -transportation payroll experience is a plus, but if you are sharp, dependable and can process multi -state payroll we want to hear from you!
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMW preferred).
Familiarity with accounting systems (Great Plains preferred).
Excellent customer service skills
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Highly organized with a strong focus on accuracy and detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
