Orion Solutions, LLC is actively seeking a Lead Damage Control Subject Matter Expert (SME), supporting a government customer in San Diego, CA.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Lead Damage Control SME will provide senior-level damage control readiness, training, inspection, and technical leadership in support of Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (CNSP) Readiness Assessment Training Team (RATT) ship visits. This role will assess damage control organization effectiveness, installed and portable damage control equipment, safety gear, shipboard damage control doctrine and procedures, material readiness, and shipboard practices; identify equipment and personnel readiness gaps; provide classroom and deckplate training; mentor ship's force; and advise shipboard leadership on corrective actions that improve survivability, safety, and operational readiness.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must be knowledgeable of Navy damage control doctrine, advanced damage control practices and procedures, shipboard damage control organization, and damage control readiness assessment methods.
Conduct shipboard material condition assessments, deckplate training, safety walk-throughs, equipment validation, discrepancy reporting, and corrective action recommendations.
Must be knowledgeable of operations and maintenance requirements for deck systems currently employed by the U.S. Navy.
Mentor ship's force personnel and advising ship leadership on damage control equipment readiness, operating procedures, and maintenance practices.
Conduct dynamic assessment of the sailors' abilities to comply with approved maintenance and operational procedures and thereafter provide formal appraisal of performance with recommendations for improvement.
Document the training conducted with specifics of the individual areas / watch station and is responsible for generation of a formal assessment of measure of success via written report.
Reporting, analysis, recommendations, corrective actions and post-action reporting with crews as they prepare for major evolutions, certifications and inspections.
As part of an onboard technical assist visit, provide ships force with on-the-job training (OJT).
Assist with the identification of required repair parts necessary to correct system malfunctions.
Identify performance/operational weaknesses throughout the assists.
Provide training and expertise to support identified weaknesses and improve operational readiness.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (Associate degree, Navy technical training, or equivalent operational experience may also qualify).

MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of fifteen (15) years of supervisory experience in analyses, information system operations, and implementation of technical projects.
Direct operational and damage control experience, within the last five (5) years, with experience and knowledge of advanced damage control practices and procedures currently in use by the Navy.
Extensive experience as a shipboard Damage Control supervisor on multiple ships.
9502 Instructor NEC/MTS-ATS preferred.
Proven proficiency in PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, consulting/client management, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proven strong ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment.
Hold Current Secret Clearance or able to obtain Secret Clearance.
US Citizenship required.
Location: San Diego, CA.
Travel: 15% - 40% of the time.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to spend extended periods on your feet while instructing and performing assessments.
Work may be performed in office environments, shipboard spaces, industrial maintenance facilities, shipyards, or waterfront operations areas.
