Role Description
The Building Automation Project Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in New York, NY. Reporting directly to the Senior Building Automation Applications Engineer, the successful candidate will support Project Managers, Field Technicians, and Engineering throughout the project lifecycle. This role is responsible for preparing engineering documentation, developing graphics, assisting with controls programming, coordinating submittals and project deliverables, supporting commissioning activities, and maintaining accurate project documentation to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and consistently.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare controls submittals, shop drawings, points lists, sequences of operation, and engineering documentation.
- Develop and modify graphics and operator user interfaces for building automation systems.
- Assist with controls programming, controller configuration, and system integrations.
- Support commissioning activities, including point verification, alarm testing, trend setup, sequence validation, and project closeout documentation.
- Coordinate engineering deliverables with Project Managers, Field Technicians, subcontractors, and customers.
- Maintain project documentation, including engineering revisions, RFIs, as-built drawings, and closeout packages.
- Provide technical support to Project Managers and Field Technicians throughout project execution.
- Track engineering deliverables and open items using project management platforms.
- Assist in developing and maintaining engineering templates, graphics libraries, and documentation standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering quality, consistency, and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (equivalent experience will be considered).
- 2+ years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, or a related engineering field.
- Working knowledge of mechanical and HVAC system operation.
- Understanding of building automation systems, controls hardware, and control sequences.
- Knowledge of low- and line-voltage controls wiring, networking, and blueprint reading.
- Experience preparing engineering documentation, including submittals and as-built drawings.
- Basic controls programming and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience developing graphics for building management systems is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Reliable Controls, Distech, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Niagara, or similar building automation platforms.
- Experience with BACnet, Modbus, LON, or other building automation communication protocols.
- Familiarity with Visio, AutoCAD, Photoshop, or similar engineering and graphics software.
- Basic knowledge of Python, JavaScript, HTML, or other programming languages.
- Experience using AI tools to improve engineering workflows, documentation, and productivity.
- Exposure to project management software and engineering document management systems.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive salary of $80,000–$120,000 per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package and the ability to grow with our fast-growing company.
