Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies seeks a mission-driven, strategically grounded, and operationally capable leader to serve as its next President & Chief Executive Officer. This is an opportunity to lead a respected regional nonprofit and social enterprise that changes lives through the power of work. The CEO will guide an organization that blends retail operations, workforce development, human services, community partnerships, and public trust into one integrated enterprise. The next CEO must be able to lead all of it. We are seeking a leader who understands that Goodwill is not only a nonprofit, and not only a business. It is both. Success in this role requires the ability to connect mission outcomes, financial stewardship, people leadership, community relationships, and day-to-day operational performance across a complex, distributed organization. The CEO reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, financial, and cultural leadership of the organization.

About the role

The President & CEO provides executive leadership for all aspects of the organization, including mission delivery, retail and donated goods operations, financial stewardship, talent and culture, external relations, and board partnership. The CEO must maintain strong situational awareness across the enterprise and exercise sound judgment in a fast-moving environment where issues in one area can quickly affect many others. The successful candidate will be an enterprise leader who can set direction, build trust, make decisions, and ensure the organization remains mission-focused, financially sound, operationally disciplined, and responsive to community needs.

Key responsibilities

Lead the organization in alignment with its mission, values, and strategic priorities
Partner with the Board of Directors to support strong governance, strategic planning, and organizational accountability 2
Provide executive oversight of retail, donated goods, workforce development, and related support operations
Ensure financial strength through sound budgeting, performance management, revenue strategy, and responsible stewardship of assets
Maintain strong awareness across the enterprise and respond effectively to emerging risks, performance issues, and strategic opportunities
Build and lead a high-performing executive team and healthy organizational culture
Serve as the primary public representative of the organization in the community
Strengthen relationships with employers, funders, government, community leaders, and other key stakeholders
Advance innovation, continuous improvement, and data-informed decision-making across the organization
Ensure compliance, safety, quality, and risk oversight across all operations and programs

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of executive leadership experience, operational credibility, strategic judgment, and genuine commitment to mission.

Required qualifications

Significant senior executive leadership experience, ideally as a CEO, President, Executive Director, COO, or equivalent
Demonstrated responsibility for a complex organization, business unit, or multi-site enterprise
Proven experience leading through growth, change, complexity, or transformation
Strong financial acumen, including budget oversight, resource allocation, and performance management
Experience building and leading senior teams
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a board, governing body, or comparable oversight structure
Strong communication skills and the ability to represent an organization credibly with diverse stakeholders
Commitment to workforce development, community impact, and mission-centered leadership

Preferred qualifications

Experience in a nonprofit social enterprise, workforce development organization, multi-site retail operation, human services organization, or similarly complex mission-driven setting
Experience with earned-revenue models alongside grants, philanthropy, contracts, or other diversified funding streams 3
Knowledge of barriers-to-employment populations and workforce systems
Experience serving as a public-facing community leader and relationship builder
Experience managing compliance, safety, and enterprise risk in a distributed organization
