Sexual Assault Victim Advocate

Are you looking for meaningful work with an organization that values integrity, teamwork, and excellence? Do you want to make a direct impact on the healing and recovery of survivors of sexual violence?

The Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center's Sexual Assault Program is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and trauma-informed Victim Advocate to serve survivors of sexual assault across Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Washington, and Walton Counties. This position is based in Panama City and provides advocacy services to both children and adults. Because this position participates in a 24/7 on-call response rotation, applicants must reside within the program service area and be able to respond in person within one hour when scheduled for on-call coverage.

Our mission is to protect and enhance the quality of life for victims of sexual violence and child abuse by providing a trauma-sensitive, specialized approach to assessment, intervention, treatment, and prevention through the coordination of community resources.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a human services field or related discipline preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience providing advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, victim services, or related human services work.
Knowledge of sexual violence, trauma-informed care, victim rights, and community resources preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational, time management, and computer skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Valid Florida driver's license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance required.
Must be at least 21 years of age due to agency insurance requirements.
Must reside within the program service area including Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Washington, or Walton County.
Must be able to report to any agency office, hospital, medical facility, law enforcement agency, correctional facility, or other response location within the program service area within one (1) hour when assigned to after-hours on-call duties.
Must be able to obtain authorization to enter correctional facilities and work with incarcerated survivors of sexual violence.

Primary Functions

Contribute to the growth and development of the Sexual Assault Program.
Assist with the creation and implementation of program goals.
Ensure that the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence (FCASV) Standards are adhered to through all phases of program planning and implementation.
Accountable for the development and implementation of the Rape Response Team (RRT).
Participate in making presentations about the RRT services to medical staff, social service agencies, the criminal justice system and other community organizations.
Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation as part of the RRT
Responsible for providing services to victims of sexual violence using the empowerment model.
Provide on-call crisis intervention to adult and adolescent sexual violence victims and their love ones.
Provide team advocacy, service management, emotional support, outreach services and online support services to teens and adults.
Provide victims with information regarding their rights and options.
Accompany victims throughout criminal and administrative proceedings.
Provide information and assistance, as needed, regarding Victim’s Compensation.
Advise victims regularly of the status of their case.
Work collaboratively with all community agencies involved in the victim’s recovery process.
Accountable for documenting information as required per agency policy.
Enters information into the agency’s computer system, within 48 hours of the provision of any service. Ensures all information is entered correctly and is up to date.
Assist with administering participant satisfaction surveys that are used to evaluate the program.
Assist with gathering necessary information and completing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Participate in performing tasks necessary to achieve program goals, and complete tasks by assigned date.
Participate in and complete all required opportunities for continuing education opportunities.
Successfully complete the 30 hour Florida Council Against Sexual Violence (FCASV) Advocacy Core Training (ACT) within 30 days of hire to qualify for sexual violence victim advocate privilege pursuant to Florida Statute 90.5035; complete a minimum of six (6) hours of sexual violence-related continuing education annually and all other required agency training.
Ensure all mandatory training requirements are up to date per agency policy.
Attend all mandatory agency and staff meetings.
Must be able to travel throughout the program service area, drive for extended periods, respond to crisis situations, and occasionally lift or transport materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
