Job Title: Associate Medical Examiner (Forensic Pathologist)
Employment Type: Temporary W-2
Pay Rate: $148.22 per hour
Schedule: Monday – Sunday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, as needed
Work Location: 11025 N 46th St, Tampa, FL 33617

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Associate Medical Examiner (Forensic Pathologist) to conduct medicolegal death investigations and determine the cause and manner of death. This role requires expertise in forensic pathology, death investigation, autopsy performance, medical evidence analysis, report preparation, and court testimony. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with law enforcement agencies, healthcare professionals, legal entities, and families while ensuring compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and professional standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesMedicolegal Death Investigations

Conduct comprehensive medicolegal death investigations.
Determine the cause and manner of death through forensic examination and evidence evaluation.
Review medical records, law enforcement reports, and investigative findings.
Participate in death scene investigations as required.
Collect, analyze, and interpret forensic evidence.

Autopsy Services

Perform external and internal postmortem examinations.
Conduct organ dissections and specimen collection.
Evaluate injuries, disease processes, and pathological findings.
Analyze toxicology, histology, microbiology, and laboratory reports.
Assist in identifying unknown decedents through forensic methods.

Documentation & Reporting

Prepare detailed autopsy and investigative reports.
Maintain accurate records and case documentation.
Present findings clearly and professionally to stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Court Testimony & Consultation

Provide expert testimony during trials, depositions, and legal proceedings.
Communicate complex medical findings to attorneys, judges, juries, and law enforcement personnel.
Consult with investigators and legal professionals regarding case findings.

Collaboration & Professional Participation

Work closely with law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, and public health officials.
Participate in departmental case reviews, meetings, and quality assurance activities.
Contribute to continuous improvement of forensic investigation practices.
Provide professional guidance and consultation regarding forensic pathology matters.

Required Qualifications

✅ Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)

✅ Completion of an ACGME-accredited Forensic Pathology Fellowship/Training Program

✅ Board Certified or Board Eligible in Forensic Pathology

✅ Valid Florida Medical License or ability to obtain licensure within six (6) months of hire

✅ Experience performing forensic autopsies and medicolegal death investigations

✅ Ability to provide expert testimony in legal proceedings

✅ Excellent analytical, investigative, and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a Medical Examiner or Coroner's Office.
Knowledge of Florida statutes, public health laws, and medicolegal procedures.
Experience collaborating with law enforcement and judicial agencies.
Strong leadership, communication, and case management abilities.
Experience handling complex and sensitive forensic cases.
