Full Job Description

THIS IS A FULL TIME ROLE IN OUR MIDDLETOWN, NY FACILITY.

Seeking a hands-on Production/Culinary Manager to lead the production team for our manufacturing facility located in Middletown, NY. The facility produces baked goods for both of our sister brands, Abe’s Vegan Muffins and Pearl River Pastry. Abe’s Vegan Muffins is the #1 allergen friendly bakery brand in the country. Pearl River Pastry is a leader in all-natural dessert manufacturing. Both brands supply products to thousands of stores and food establishments nationwide.

The Production/Culinary Manager is responsible for overseeing the production of baked goods and desserts, ensuring they are executed according to company recipes and processes, while meeting production, quality, and safety objectives. This role requires strong leadership skills, as well as culinary and organizational abilities. The Production/Culinary Manager will be expected to regularly audit processes and procedures for continuous growth and improvement.

Responsibilities/Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of pastry production experience, in the role of a manager or a Chef
Bilingual in English & Spanish strongly preferred.
Provide consistent follow-up ensuring proper procedures are followed and documented.
Must monitor and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's)
Follow schedule and ensure work assignments are completed to quality and safety specifications.
Trains production employees to the highest standards in the industry.
Oversee and review all required paperwork, reports, and documentation.
Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, safety standards and quality of products.
Work collaboratively with peer department leaders: Quality, Packaging, Maintenance, and Warehouse.
Ensure proper up-keep of equipment; address and resolve problems, initiate work orders for repairs.
Follows and complies, or ensures compliance, with established procedures including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe working practices.
Maintains, or ensures maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working environment; maintains equipment in accordance with cleanliness and safety standards. Leads by example.
Immediately reports safety hazards and violations,

Experience:

3+ years of successful, hands-on, leadership experience within a large pastry production environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise and mentor employees.
Good working knowledge of pastry production equipment such as mixers, ovens, and packaging equipment.
Working knowledge of process controls and industry standards.
Demonstrates a passion for cleanliness.
Well versed in food safety, allergen, and other compliance requirements of a bakery production facility.
Willingness and ability to resolve problems.
Positive and professional communication and customer service skills. Ensure capabilities to meet market needs and support profitable growth of the products produced in the Middletown, NY facility.
Basic computer skills – accustomed to working in an MS Office environment including Excel.
Willingness and ability to work hours as required.
Good Organization and Time Management Skills.
Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.

Essential Physical Requirements:

The following physical requirements must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation. The work environment requires tolerance to variations in temperature, wet conditions in washroom area, exposure to food products, and manufacturing equipment that includes a variety of controls and mechanisms.
Ability to:

o Manipulate equipment utilizing manual dexterity.

o Lift 50 pounds.

o Stand, walk, squat, reach, and sit for long periods of time (standing/walking an average of 8 hours/day)..

o Understand written and verbal instructions.

o Push and lift items with varying degrees of weight.

o Perform repetitive motion movements with upper extremities.

o Hand use: grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling

o Use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.

o May require use of ladders.

Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
Exposure to temperatures <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pay:

The pay range for this position is $60,000-$75,000 plus discretionary bonus based on performance. Abe’s Vegan Muffins takes into consideration a wide range of factors in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
