Job Description and Duties

This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento.

Do you have a passion for digital services, automation, and turning data into insight and action? DMV's Executive Division is seeking a motivated, technology forward IT Associate (Developer) to join a dynamic team in the Intelligent Automation Products Unit. In this role, you will support the quality, reliability, user experience, and accessibility of the DMV's technology products, with a focus on developing automation solutions and modern integration approaches. As an IT Associate, you will assist in analyzing technology and business processes, document solutions under the guidance of lead staff, and contribute to development and maintenance activities using both established and emerging technologies. The IT Associate performs foundational software engineering and support duties across the lifecycle of software and automation systems, including assisting with development, configuration, testing, and implementation. Working closely with senior developers, you will help maintain and troubleshoot software and automation solutions that streamline business processes, connect platforms, and deliver accurate information to decision-makers and customers.

Working Conditions

Part-time telework available. Telework requires California residency. This position offers hybrid telework opportunities; however, telework arrangements are subject to change at any time based on State & departmental operational needs. Employees may be required to report to the office as necessary.

DMV operates 24/7, and the incumbent may be required to carry a work cell phone and laptop. There may be occasions when travel to out of town conferences is necessary, or when evening and weekend work is required to meet project timelines. Telework Option - Hybrid This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement for applicants who reside in California. A hybrid schedule includes a combination of remote work and on site reporting to the office.

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is a recognized leader in public service and has existed for over 100 years. The DMV is responsible for registering approximately 36 million vehicles in California, and serving 34 million driver license and identification card holders, collecting over $14 billion in annual revenue. • Automation & Application Development: hands-on experience building reliable, reusable workflow automations using RPA and low-code platforms. Foundational software development skills utilizing the C#, Python, or JavaScript to support application delivery. • Requirements Support & Documentation: Experience assisting with business analysis and the collection of operational requirements. Competency in translating requirements into basic technical designs, drafting clear technical documentation, and utilizing Git or Azure DevOps to support the development lifecycle. • Systems Integration & Data Management: Practical experience working with REST/JSON APls and common connectors to connect disparate IT environments. Working database knowledge, including writing queries, joins, and stored procedures in MS SQL Server to perform data mapping. Testing & Quality Assurance: Proficiency in authoring and executing functional and non-functional test cases, supporting UAT and regression testing, and tracking system defects. Experience incorporating standard error handling, exception management, and logging practices into code to ensure stability. Operations & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong communication skills for delivering concise status updates and presentations. Proven ability to deploy and monitor applications, troubleshoot operational incidents, create technical runbooks, and coordinate effectively with cross-functional units.
