Full Job Description

<Overview>
Join our dynamic team as a Construction Accountant and become a vital part of our financial operations within the construction industry. In this energetic role, you will oversee all accounting functions related to construction projects, ensuring accurate financial management, compliance with regulatory standards, and seamless reporting. Your expertise will support project budgets, financial analysis, and reporting, helping us deliver successful projects on time and within scope. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your accounting skills in a fast-paced environment that values precision, innovation, and growth.

<Duties>

Manage the full cycle of construction project accounting, including tracking costs, revenues, and budgets to ensure financial accuracy.
Prepare detailed financial statements and reports that interpret project performance and support strategic decision-making.
Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and project-specific accounts using accounting software such as Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft.
Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes related to construction activities, ensuring timely payments and collections.
Conduct variance analysis between projected budgets and actual expenses to identify discrepancies early.
Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and other regulatory standards relevant to construction finance.
Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to forecast cash flow needs and support financial planning efforts.
Maintain meticulous records of journal entries, account reconciliations, and audit documentation for internal review and external audits.
Assist with regulatory reporting requirements including LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) compliance when applicable.
Mentor junior team members in technical accounting practices such as double-entry bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and financial analysis.

<Requirements>

Proven experience in corporate or governmental accounting with a strong understanding of construction industry financial practices.
Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft; familiarity with Microsoft Excel for advanced financial analysis is essential.
Knowledge of GAAP standards along with experience in SOX compliance and regulatory reporting.
Strong understanding of technical accounting concepts including accrual accounting, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliation, and financial statement preparation.
Experience working with LIHTC programs or non-profit accounting is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to interpret complex financial reports and conduct detailed financial analysis.
Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Effective communication skills for collaborating across teams and mentoring junior staff members.
