About the Studio
it-makes is a small, design-driven architecture practice dedicated to producing thoughtful, well-crafted work. Our portfolio spans collaborations with established academic institutions, recognized hospitality groups, and a growing mix of cultural and commercial clients contributing to the built environment across Los Angeles. This range of projects offers exposure to different building types and a broad cross-section of project phases.

Our workplace is straightforward and professional, designed to support focus and efficiency. Team members are encouraged to exchange ideas openly, ask questions, and work together to move projects forward. Leadership remains involved and available for guidance, while individuals are expected to take initiative and ownership of their work.

Role Overview
We are seeking a Project Designer with a strong design sensibility, collaborative mindset, and the ability to translate creative concepts into thoughtful, well-executed architectural solutions. This role involves active participation across multiple project types and phases, from early concept development through construction documentation, providing hands-on experience within a collaborative studio environment.

We value curiosity, ownership, and thoughtful problem-solving. Team members are encouraged to take initiative, contribute ideas, and manage their workload with accountability, while maintaining a high level of design quality and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to the design process from initial concept development through construction documentation and project completion
Develop design concepts, presentations, diagrams, renderings, and other visual materials to communicate project ideas effectively
Assist in the preparation and refinement of architectural drawings, details, and documentation sets
Collaborate and communicate with project teams, consultants, clients, and contractors to support design intent and project goals
Participate in design meetings, client presentations, site visits, and coordination efforts
Help maintain consistency between conceptual vision, technical requirements, and final built outcomes
Support project organization, schedules, and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects

Qualifications

Background & Education

1-2 years of experience in an architectural or design practice
Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) from an accredited institution

Skills & Capabilities

Strong design ability with a thoughtful approach to problem-solving and storytelling
Proficiency in design and visualization tools such as Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or similar software
Strong attention to detail
Ability to balance conceptual thinking with practical project requirements
Self-directed, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a collaborative studio setting
Strong written and verbal communication skills
