Position Description - Assistant Editor

This position is located at our headquarters in Pittsfield, MA.

The Assistant Editor position at Laurin Publishing Company supports Photonics Media’s summit team by assisting in the planning, production, and promotion of virtual events under the company’s three magazines: Photonics Spectra, Vision Spectra, and BioPhotonics. Working closely with the Multimedia Editor, the Assistant Editor will gain hands-on experience in content strategy, social media, event production, and marketing while developing professional relationships with industry leaders and helping deliver educational programs to the global photonics community.

Essential Job Functions:

Assist with the development and organization of virtual summit programs and presentation schedules.
Help coordinate communication with speakers, sponsors, and industry partners.
Support the collection and organization of presentation materials, abstracts, biographies, and headshots.
Research industry trends, technologies, and speakers to support event planning and content development.
Work with industry partners and contributors to ensure presentations align with Photonics Media’s editorial standards and guidelines.
Draft and edit promotional materials, including event descriptions, speaker previews, email campaigns, and social media content.
Participate in presentation recordings, event production activities, and sponsored webinar talks as assigned.
Monitor event analytics and audience feedback to help identify opportunities for program improvement.

Job Qualifications:

Holding a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, business, or a related field is encouraged but not required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Interest in digital content, content creation, marketing, or media production, with basic familiarity with social media platforms and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to effectively utilize all general office equipment, answer the telephone, and professionally interact with clients, other employees, supervisors, and senior management of the company.
Prolonged periods of sitting. Prolonged periods of computer/keyboard use.
