Full Job Description

We are a growing tax strategy consultation company looking to bring our R&D Tax Credit services entirely in-house. We are seeking an R&D Tax Credit Specialist to lead the identification, qualification, and documentation of R&D tax credits for our diverse client base. You will work alongside our in-house CPA team to deliver comprehensive tax savings strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Discovery: Conduct interviews with clients' technical, engineering, and software development teams to identify qualifying research activities (QRAs).
Credit Calculation: Gather financial data, payroll records, and supply costs to calculate qualified research expenses (QREs) and determine the final credit amounts.
Technical Writing: Draft robust, audit-ready technical narratives that justify how the client's projects meet the IRS Four-Factor Test.
Project Management: Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously from initial scoping through to final deliverable generation.
Audit Support: Assist in defending R&D tax credit positions in the event of federal or state tax audits.

Qualifications & Skills:

Experience: 2+ years of dedicated experience specializing in R&D tax credits (either at a CPA firm, boutique specialty tax firm, or corporate environment).
Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of IRC Section 41, Section 174, and the IRS Four-Factor Test.
Strong Interviewing Skills: Ability to talk to non-financial people (like medical professionals) and translate their day-to-day work into tax-qualifying language.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. (CPA, EA, or JD is a plus but not strictly required if technical experience is strong).
