Job Summary
Under limited direction of a Radiologist and with considerable latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative, performs professional duties involved in a variety of technical procedures involving CT Imaging. Assumes responsibility of selection of medical supplies and technical scanning parameters.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for initializing and shutting down system.
- Use a variety of complex electronic devices for the purpose of Imaging.
- Set up and adjust patient support and restraining equipment.
- Use automatic film processing equipment in conjunction with Laser Imager.
- Position and handle patients with a high degree of professional ethics, care, tact, courtesy, patience and safety.
- Position patients to obtain and effect the desired results as prescribed and specified for diagnosis.
- Analyze patient's physical condition, age and suspected pathology for proper examination.
Assumes responsibility for film processing procedures and techniques.
- Retrieve patient from waiting room, and give patient full explanation and instruction for examination.
- Interviews patient for detailed clinical history; and documents same on the appropriate record.
- Assess the clinical history to insure the absence of any/all contraindications.
- Recognizes situation(s) necessitating sedation or cancellation of an examination; notified referring physician of same.
- In event of an emergency, assist Nurse and Radiologist. Notify police/paramedics as appropriate.
- Administer first aid as needed.
- Assume responsibility for proper and efficient operation of all equipment used. Report malfunction and the need for adjustment or responses to the Facility Manager or Senior Technologist. (In their absence, malfunctions of CT equipment reported to Vendor service personnel.)
- Maintain records and/or technical notation, patient history on request forms.
- May direct the efforts of aides or ambulance personnel.
- Perform other related technical and patient care functions requiring comparable skills and experience.
- Is responsible for seeing all clerical requirements are properly completed related to patient's identification and type of study.
- May instruct and demonstrate the use of specific technique, equipment, and procedures.
- May recommend or direct procurement of supplies and be responsible for proper storage and utilization.
- Responsible for covering vacation and time off of other staff members.
- Keep informed of new procedures and updates concerning CT.
- Responsible for maintaining a clear and safe working area.
- Assumes responsibility that a proper consent form has been signed, and is on file. (By patient or family member)
- Assists clerical staff as needed.
- Preparing films for courier delivery to Hospital and various doctors.
- May be called upon to perform other functions not included in job description.
Physical Efforts
Lifting and moving of patients and equipment. Continual standing and walking.
Contacts
Must be capable of dealing efficiently and ethically with a variety of personnel, such as patients, families, physicians, nurses and other office staff and on occasion students.
Graduate of an accredited high school plus two (2) years formal radiologic technology training. Must have passed an examination within six (6) months by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Technologists must be CPR certified. Hold current licensure in the State of New Jersey. Shows professional interest through self-development, continuing education, and involvement in professional organizations. Presents a positive attitude and professional appearance.
Accountability
Reports to Chief Operating Officer, Practice Administrator, Lead Technician (Manager) and Radiologist.
Pay: $47.00 - $51.00 per hour
