Recording Secretary (Part time)

Deadline to Apply: Friday, July 31st at 8:00am

Expected Start Date: August/September 2026

Details

Part Time (Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal Status), non-exempt
$20- $23/hour, depending on qualifications
Reports to City Clerk
Located at Eden Prairie City Center
Hours vary, approximately 1-3 evenings/month

Responsibilities

The Recording Secretary provides clerical support to the City Clerk related to City Council, Board and/or Commission meetings. This position is primarily responsible for the following areas of impact:

Attends Board and/or Commission meetings as scheduled.
Summarizes information while capturing decisions made and the thought process that led to them.
Produces an accurate, concise, and complete record of the meeting in a timely manner and free of typographical, grammatical and technical errors.

While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Requirements

High School Degree required (or GED equivalent)
Proficiency in MS Word required
Must be available to work evenings
Experience in taking official minutes required, experience in City government preferred.
Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, work verification.

Able to convey a message to get a point across. Communicates in a clear and concise manner. Able to write clearly and succinctly. Tailors message to a variety of communication settings and styles.
Ability to perform and/or coordinate several activities, responsibilities, and tasks simultaneously in a polite and professional manner. Prioritizes what needs to get done. Keeps things neat and orderly. Utilizes tools for efficiency. Factors several considerations when planning. Establishes methods to ensure routine tasks are completed.
Able to find errors in work and solve problems; anticipates issues and performs at a high level of accuracy; sets up systems to ensure errors are not repeated.
