Full Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated individual to join our Animal Care Crew, someone who is not only passionate about caring for animals but is also familiar with animal behavior or has experience in obedience training. This person will play a key role in providing essential care for our rescue animals from intake to adoption, focusing on preparing them for life in loving, responsible homes.

We are looking for someone with a flexible schedule who can work a variety of shifts, including:

AM: 5:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Mid: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
PM: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Including one to two doubles per week

Caring for the animals at our sanctuary takes dedication, compassion, and hard work. We are committed to rescuing the most vulnerable lives and preparing them for success through both exceptional animal care and effective training.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide daily care for sanctuary animals, including feeding according to established procedures and administering medications as needed.

Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by following strict sanitation protocols, including disinfecting suites, ISO, play areas, and other sanctuary spaces, as well as handling laundry, dishes, and trash.

Safely and compassionately handle animals, always treating them with love, patience, and respect.

Monitor, document, and report on each dog's daily behavior, medical status, and training progress.

Implement and continue individualized training plans for sanctuary dogs, including those who have not yet been adopted post-graduation from formal training programs.

Work proactively on socialization, basic obedience, and light behavioral modification with dogs of varying backgrounds and needs.

Support and mentor new employees in both animal care and basic handling/training techniques.

Perform additional tasks as needed to support the sanctuary’s day-to-day operations.

Qualifications:

Experience in dog training or animal handling.

Comfortable working with a wide variety of dogs, including those with different personalities and medical challenges.

Flexibility and willingness to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical ability to perform animal care duties, including lifting, walking, and cleaning.

Previous animal care, shelter, or veterinary experience preferred.

Must be very responsible, reliable, and have consistent transportation.

Must be highly detail-oriented and able to work efficiently while maintaining high standards.

Must take great pride in your work and show a strong sense of ownership in every task.

Must be a fantastic problem solver, able to prioritize, troubleshoot independently, and find solutions quickly and effectively.

Must be open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement.

Must maintain a calm, stable energy when working with animals and teammates alike.

Must be a collaborative team player who contributes positively to a supportive, mission-driven environment.

Position Details:

Hours: 20–30+ hours per week

Pay: $18–$22 per hour, depending on experience, with room to grow
