Position Title: Farm Cart Sales & Guest Services

Employee Status: Seasonal, Full Time & Part Time hours
Location: On-site (Farm Barn at Shelburne Farms: 1611 Harbor Rd, Shelburne, VT 05482)
Pay rate: $17 - 20/hour
Start & End Date: May 4th - October 31st (weekends only in May, early June, September & October; 7 days/week from mid-June - August)
Schedule: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm; Schedule is determined in advance and coordinated by manager
Farm Cart operates from 11am - 3pm however the schedule reflects set-up and break-down times. You will need to be available to work weekends and holidays.
Occasional evening hours in July & August to support food at community events.

It allows our visitors to experience our Farm products, discover other local farm-based goods, and learn more about our mission and campus offerings. Our home campus is a 1,400-acre working farm located on the traditional, unceded, and contemporary homelands of the Winooskik band of the Abenaki.

Who We’re Looking for
As a Cashier, working alongside a Line Cook at the Farm Cart, you will share the food we grow and raise at the Farm while helping to strengthen our local food systems by serving delicious lunch and snacks to visitors.
Our Farm Cart is centrally located at the Farm Barn, where visitors can engage in hands-on activities with our farm animals and gardeners at the Children’s Farmyard and watch the cheesemakers hard at work.
What You’ll Do
Cashier and Farm Cart support
Engage with visitors, enter food and beverage orders through a Point-of-Sales system, bring meals to customers, and support Farm Cart Cook as needed.
Maintain a clean and tidy space both inside the food cart and in the public eating areas including the additional indoor eating space (pipe room in Farm Barn).
Set-up and break-down the Farm Cart before and after opening.
Take inventory of supplies and restock each day.
Remove rubbish from the cart and public eating area throughout the day.
Guest Services
Greet and orient diverse audiences to the Farm Barn including day visitors from around the world, overnight inn guests.
Provide information about the Shelburne Farms campus, history, products, and services.

Additional Valued Qualifications
Work Environment & Physical Demands
On good weather days you will set up a table outside to better connect with customers while taking their orders, however you will also work inside the Farm Cart which can be very warm during summer months.
Setting up/closing down large umbrellas above picnic tables.
There are two steps leading up into the Farm Cart and the walkway inside the cart approximately 3 feet wide.
The cart has a continuous fan operating to help with air circulation but there is no heating/cooling element besides the fan.
Carrying and moving inventory and trash, potentially moving items up/down stairs.
Carrying items weighing approximately 40 pounds.
Maintain a tidy shared workspace as defined by the cleaning checklist and training.
Working in varied weather conditions.
Working and moving over uneven terrain.
