Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated Pediatric Behavioral Health Registered Nurse to provide compassionate, specialized care to children and adolescents experiencing acute behavioral health challenges. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in pediatric nursing, with a focus on mental health, and demonstrates expertise in patient assessment, crisis intervention, and therapeutic support. Key Responsibilities
- Comprehensive Assessment: Conduct detailed nursing assessments of pediatric and adolescent patients presenting with behavioral health concerns, including vital signs, developmental/mental status evaluations, and safety/risk assessments.
- Medication Management: Administer medications and treatments—including psychotropic medications when appropriate—ensuring strict adherence to pediatric safety protocols and weight-based dosing guidelines.
- Collaborative Care: Partner with a multidisciplinary team (including pediatric psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and child life specialists) to develop and update individualized, age-appropriate care plans.
- Therapeutic Support: Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions and support to children and their families, fostering a safe, secure environment conducive to recovery and growth.
- Clinical Documentation: Accurately document clinical observations, patient progress, and interventions in compliance with healthcare and institutional standards.
- Family Education: Educate parents and guardians on behavioral health conditions, medication administration, coping strategies, and available community resources.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, crisis prevention measures, and infection control procedures within the pediatric behavioral health setting.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Associate of Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred. Must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current certification in Pediatric Nursing or Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing is preferred. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) are highly advantageous.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children or adolescents in behavioral health settings (such as inpatient units, outpatient clinics, or community programs) is highly preferred.
- Skills: Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic or Cerner). Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with young patients and their families while maintaining professional boundaries.

Job Summary IU Health Methodist Hospital is looking for passionate, experienced nurses to join our Adult Behavioral Health Services team. The Clinical Nurse is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This secured environment treats adult patients who present with complex medical and psychiatric diagnoses, offering an excellent opportunity to simultaneously develop and sharpen both your acute medical and psychiatric nursing skills.
Unit Details & Scope Nurses hired into Adult Behavioral Health are cross-trained and work across all of our specialized areas:
- B8 (Med-Surg Psych): A 20-bed secured medical floor treating patients who present with a primary medical diagnosis and a secondary psychiatric diagnosis (e.g., alcohol withdrawal, Alzheimer’s/dementia, altered mental status).
- C8 (Psychiatric Unit): A 16-bed locked psychiatric unit focusing on patients who present with primary psychiatric diagnoses, including schizophrenia, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and psychosis.
- Secured Holding: A 5-bed emergency psychiatric unit for patients presenting to the emergency department for acute mental health crises, focusing on rapid assessment and placement.
- ECT Program: One of the only Electroconvulsive Therapy programs in the state, primarily treating severe depression and catatonia for 18–24 patients, three days a week.
Key Responsibilities
- Dual-Discipline Care: Coordinate and deliver care for patients requiring both psychiatric oversight and acute medical management.
- Advanced Clinical Skills: Utilize a wide variety of medical skills, including blood administration, IVIG, tracheostomy care, PCA pumps, and wound management systems.
- Crisis De-escalation: Maintain a safe environment by utilizing exceptional crisis de-escalation skills and behavior management techniques (CPI).
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the broader multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care and enhance operational efficiency.
- Professional Standards: Adhere to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing, the Code of Ethics for Nurses, and IU Health Corporate Compliance policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Associate of Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred. Must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program (or possess more than 2 years of acute care experience subject to CNO approval).
- Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required. Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification is required (provided/gained on the unit during onboarding).
- Experience: Prior experience in an acute care or inpatient psychiatric setting is highly desirable. Must possess strong time-management skills to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-unit environment.
