Job Summary
STOMTECH.PRO is seeking a senior-level Dental Materials Formulation Scientist, Product Development Expert, or Independent R&D Consultant with proven industrial experience in the development and commercialization of professional dental materials.
This is not an entry-level laboratory position. We are looking for an experienced specialist who has previously worked with a dental materials manufacturer, international dental brand, contract development organization, or specialized chemical R&D laboratory.
The primary objective of this role is to accelerate the development of commercially viable dental products by using established industry expertise, existing formulation knowledge, proven technical solutions, and practical manufacturing experience.
We are open to:
- project-based consulting;
- part-time or remote cooperation;
- formulation development under contract;
- acquisition or licensing of existing formulations;
- technology transfer;
- adaptation of previously developed formulations;
- preparation of manufacturing documentation and scale-up support.
Candidates with previous experience at companies such as Dentsply Sirona, Philips, 3M, Ivoclar, Kulzer, DMG, VOCO, Coltene, Kettenbach, Zhermack, Ultradent, Septodont, Kerr, GC, Tokuyama Dental, or comparable dental and medical materials manufacturers are especially encouraged to apply.
All cooperation will be subject to confidentiality, intellectual property, and non-disclosure agreements.
Priority Product Categories
The initial development scope may include:
- professional dental prophylaxis powders based on erythritol or sodium bicarbonate;
- air-polishing and biofilm-removal powders;
- dental etching gels containing approximately 37% phosphoric acid;
- sodium hypochlorite irrigation solutions;
- chlorhexidine-based dental solutions;
- EDTA-based root canal irrigation products;
- dental plaque-disclosing agents;
- professional and home-use whitening products;
- dental adhesives, composites, impression materials, and other dental consumables.
Experience in one or several of these product categories is acceptable. Candidates are not required to have expertise in every category.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, provide, license, or adapt commercially viable formulations for dental materials and oral-care products.
- Evaluate existing formulations and identify opportunities to improve stability, efficacy, manufacturability, shelf life, and product performance.
- Recommend raw materials, suppliers, specifications, concentrations, and processing parameters.
- Prepare complete formulation packages, including composition ranges, manufacturing instructions, critical process parameters, and quality-control criteria.
- Support laboratory preparation of prototypes and pilot batches.
- Transfer formulations from laboratory scale to pilot and commercial manufacturing.
- Identify and resolve formulation issues such as hygroscopicity, agglomeration, poor flowability, sedimentation, phase separation, viscosity instability, polymerization defects, or incompatibility with packaging.
- Recommend appropriate analytical and performance testing methods.
- Define product specifications, acceptance criteria, and stability-testing protocols.
- Support the preparation of technical documentation required for product registration and regulatory assessment.
- Conduct competitive product benchmarking and reverse-engineering analysis where legally permissible.
- Advise the company on formulation feasibility, development risks, development timelines, and expected production costs.
- Collaborate remotely with the company’s management, production personnel, laboratories, regulatory consultants, and external testing organizations.
- Protect confidential information and clearly disclose any intellectual property restrictions related to proposed formulations or technologies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dental Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant industrial R&D or product-development experience.
- Proven experience developing commercial dental materials, oral-care products, medical materials, pharmaceuticals, or specialty chemical formulations.
- Direct participation in the development, scale-up, manufacturing, or commercialization of at least one market-ready product.
- Strong understanding of formulation chemistry, raw-material functionality, manufacturing processes, product stability, and quality control.
- Ability to prepare clear and reproducible manufacturing instructions and technical documentation.
- Experience working under confidentiality and intellectual-property agreements.
- Professional proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous employment or consulting experience with an established European, American, Japanese, or South Korean dental materials manufacturer.
- Existing formulations, technology packages, patents, know-how, or development documentation that may be legally transferred, licensed, or adapted.
- Experience with dental powders, etching gels, irrigation solutions, adhesives, composites, impression materials, or whitening products.
- Experience with technology transfer to contract manufacturers or international production facilities.
- Knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 14971, GMP, GLP, FDA, EU MDR, or Eurasian Economic Union medical-device requirements.
- Experience preparing documentation for medical-device registration.
- Knowledge of analytical methods such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, particle-size analysis, rheology, microscopy, viscosity measurement, and stability testing.
- Experience with design of experiments, formulation optimization, and root-cause analysis.
Expected Deliverables
Depending on the agreed project scope, deliverables may include:
- complete or adapted product formulations;
- raw-material specifications and recommended suppliers;
- step-by-step manufacturing procedures;
- equipment and process requirements;
- in-process control parameters;
- finished-product specifications;
- analytical and performance-testing methods;
- stability and shelf-life study plans;
- pilot-batch support;
- troubleshooting and formulation optimization;
- technology-transfer documentation;
- regulatory and technical dossier support.

- independent consulting;
- fixed-scope formulation development;
- hourly expert support;
- milestone-based project work;
- licensing or acquisition of an existing formulation;
- technology-transfer agreement;
- long-term remote R&D cooperation.
The position is remote and open to qualified candidates in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, and other countries with developed dental-materials industries.
