The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Epidemiology & Public Health is hiring a Research Data Analyst/Programmer in the Division of Maternal and Child Health. . Under general supervision, the analyst/programmer will extract and analyze clinical and claims data to support research studies and proposal development for the division and its collaborators. The Department’s mission is to advance public health by investigating the causes, treatment, and prevention of human health problems. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and data analysts/programmers. The ideal candidate will have programming experience in languages such as Python, SQL, or R, along with experience analyzing and working with and an interest in healthcare data and research.
This role is responsible for querying, managing, and extracting data from large clinical data repositories while designing and developing scalable data architectures and analytic frameworks to support large-scale data processing and analysis. The position ensures that analytics infrastructure and related systems meet business requirements and industry best practices by implementing procedures and protocols to monitor, analyze, and validate data integrity. Responsibilities include gathering and transforming raw data from multiple disparate sources through scripting, API integrations, and SQL queries to prepare data for analysis. The role also supports the development of big data, batch, and real-time analytical processing solutions using emerging technologies. Additionally, the individual identifies process workflows and quality assurance/control measures to effectively monitor and manage project schedules, scope, and budgets. Collaboration with other programmers is essential to maintain and manage cohorts, data extraction processes, and related code repositories.
This position will be filled either by a Senior, Lead, or Manager based upon the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, and skill level.
This position will report to the Division Director/PI. This is a hybrid position with up to 2 telework days.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Analyst, Research Data Senior

Responsible for conducting advanced analysis and support for research programs in order to promote a culture of assessment and evidence based decision making. The Senior Research Analyst will compile and interpret research data; establish and maintain databases, develop quality assurance; and provide final interpretations to others.

Independently conduct research assignments that include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements and difficult coordination requirements. The Senior Research Analyst is recognized as a subject matter expert and completes the highly complex work critical to the department. Assignments and projects are broad in nature requiring originality and ingenuity.

Design and conduct quantitative research projects, analyze findings, develop conclusions, develop and write reports, prepare presentations of relevant findings and conclusions, and recommends appropriate actions.

Develop and perform effective methods of data collection and assessment. May receive, inventory, enter, and organize collected data. Develop methods and tools to ensure validity and accuracy of data and compliance with quality control requirements.

Establish and maintain database files, perform required data extraction through programming and report on progress of programs, studies, and/or projects.

Perform sophisticated data searches and exchanges among micro, mini, and mainframe-based statistical software applications to generate standard and customized reports using statistical applications. Demonstrate expertise in statistical applications such as SPSS, SAS, R, STATA, and Excel.

Act in a lead role in the summation and preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and proposals by providing and presenting statistical information in the forms of tables, charts, or graphs. Review work of support staff and determines how analysis will be presented.

Analyst, Research Data Lead

Responsible for providing subject matter expertise and direction in research designs and management of quantitative and qualitative data. The work primarily consists of leading analysis on data in response to research studies, and presenting the results of those analyses to internal and external stakeholders. The Lead Research Analyst independently develops and oversees research initiatives; exercises leadership in data management and analysis, and is seen as an expert in research analysis.

Uses subject matter and technical expertise to identify and define research questions and data elements, and integrates them into research design. Leads the planning stages of research and introduces new statistical methodologies and research designs.

Develop, recommend, modify, and implement policies and procedures and/or methods for research. Leads the development and formulates best practices and protocols in data collection, data quality, warehousing, analysis, and reporting including developing special forms and/or formats for analyzing and presenting data.

Mentors less experienced members of the research team, develops training, and provides continued guidance.

Experience :Three (3) years of related experience in a research environment including two (2) years in the relevant research specialization.

Experience: Six (6) years of experience involving research data analysis with at least three (3) years of relevant research specialization. Experience in the use and application of SAS, STATA, and/or R is preferred.
Supervisory Experience : One (1) year work coordination.
