Operations Manager

We've built something real — 11 trucks, a crew that delivers, and a

reputation that earns repeat business. Now we need the operator

who turns a working business into an unstoppable machine.

Location: DMV (DC / Maryland / Virginia)

Compensation: Competitive base + performance bonus

Reports to: Founders / Ownership

Level: Senior — Autonomous, No Micromanagement

BoxStar Movers is a DMV-based residential moving company founded

on one principle: show up like a professional, treat people's homes

like your own, and earn every five-star review. We've grown fromnothing to 11 trucks through hustle, word-of-mouth, and

uncompromising service standards.

Now we're preparing for the next chapter — 30 trucks, 50 trucks, 100

trucks — and we need the person who can engineer what gets us

there. Not just manage what exists, but build the system, the culture,

and the infrastructure that makes growth predictable.

You own how this company runs.

This is not a coordinator role. You will be accountable for every

dimension of day-to-day operations — from how crews are

dispatched at 7 AM to how complaints are resolved at 7 PM. You'll

build processes where there are gaps, tighten systems where they're

loose, and develop people so the operation doesn't depend on any

one person, including you.

You'll report directly to ownership and be expected to think like a

partner — with full context, clear reporting, and the confidence to tell

us when something isn't working and exactly how you'd fix it.We're not looking for a manager who watches

the operation.

better than anyone on the team could today.

W H AT Y O U ' L L D O

Responsibilities

Crew & Field Operations

→

Oversee daily scheduling, dispatch, and crew deployment

across all active jobs

→

Set and enforce performance standards for movers —

productivity, professionalism, customer interaction

→

Build accountability structures: clear expectations, consistent

feedback loops, real consequences

→

Reduce chargeback incidents and damage claims through

proactive training and SOPs

→

Own crew retention — reduce turnover by building a team

that wants to be hereSystems & Process

→

Map, document, and continuously improve every operational

workflow — from booking confirmation to job closeout

→

Build SOPs that work at 11 trucks and still work at 50

→

Implement tools and software that reduce manual work and

improve visibility

→

Establish quality control checkpoints at every stage of the

customer journey

→

Identify operational bottlenecks before they become revenue

problems

Fleet & Logistics

→

Manage truck scheduling, maintenance tracking, and

utilization optimization

→

Develop vendor relationships for equipment, supplies, and

field support

→

Coordinate with the sales team to ensure capacity aligns with

demandReporting & Leadership

→

Deliver clear, honest weekly and monthly reporting to

ownership — no noise, just signal

→

Translate operational data into decisions: what's working,

what's not, what's next

→

Lead by example — the crew should follow you because

you've earned it, not because of a title

→

Build a leadership layer beneath you so the operation scales

without you becoming a bottleneck

Requirements

Must-Haves

→

5+ years managing field operations — moving, logistics,

trades, or another high-volume service business

→

Proven track record of building systems and SOPs that

outlast your direct involvement

→

Experience directly managing front-line crews — you know

how to lead people who work with their hands

Extremely strong communicator: clear written reporting,→direct verbal feedback, honest conversations with ownership

→

Data-driven mindset — you use numbers to make decisions,

not just to report them

→

Unimpeachable reliability and follow-through — when you

say it will be done, it is done

Strong Advantages

→

Background in a company that scaled a fleet or field

workforce — you've been through growth and know what

breaks

Familiarity with moving industry software (HiMove,

MoveitPro, or similar)

Experience building or leading customer service escalation

processes
