Full Job Description

SLM Concrete Corporation is seeking a Commercial Concrete Layout Engineer to join our team in Manassas, VA. This is a full-time, on-site position focused on reviewing construction drawings, preparing accurate concrete layout data, and supporting field operations for commercial concrete projects.

The ideal candidate will serve as a key technical resource for project teams by interpreting plans, organizing and tracking drawing revisions, preparing stakeout information, coordinating layout needs with field teams, and submitting RFIs when drawings do not provide sufficient information.

This role is primarily office-based, with occasional field visits as needed.

Responsibilities

Review construction drawings, specifications, and updates issued by General Contractors
Organize, track, and maintain current drawing sets and revisions throughout the project lifecycle
Prepare accurate concrete layout data and digital files for field use
Develop stakeout information for field crews, including dimensions, elevations, control lines, and reference points
Coordinate layout information for foundations, slabs, walls, columns, embeds, openings, anchor bolts, and control joints
Create and manage layout files using CAD software
Identify discrepancies, conflicts, or missing information within plans and communicate with project teams
Prepare and submit RFIs for clarification or additional information when required
Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and foremen to support field operations and scheduling needs
Provide occasional field support for verification, troubleshooting, or coordination as needed

Requirements

Strong experience in commercial concrete construction, including foundations, slabs, walls, embeds, anchor bolts, and general concrete layout coordination
Strong proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar)
Ability to read, interpret, organize, and track structural and architectural drawings throughout all phases of construction
Experience reviewing drawing revisions, identifying discrepancies, and coordinating updates with project teams
Understanding of dimensions, elevations, control lines, tolerances, and construction sequencing
Experience preparing RFIs and requesting clarification for missing or conflicting information on plans
Ability to support field crews with accurate layout and drawing coordination
Knowledge of Topcon Digital Layout or similar systems is a plus, but not required
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Degree or formal training in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, or related field strongly preferred
Must be local to the Manassas, VA area or within commuting distance
