AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – First Shift

FabArc Steel Supply – Oxford, AL

Schedule: First Shift | Monday–Friday | 4:00 AM – 2:30 PM

FabArc Steel Supply is seeking an experienced AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our Quality Control team at our structural steel fabrication facility in Oxford, Alabama.

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all fabricated materials, welds, and assemblies comply with contract drawings, customer specifications, AWS codes, and FabArc quality standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the quality and integrity of the products we manufacture.

Applicants must possess a current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification to be considered for this position.

Essential Responsibilities

Inspect structural steel fabrication and welding to ensure compliance with customer specifications, contract documents, AWS codes, and company quality procedures.
Interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, welding symbols, and joint details.
Verify weld quality using visual inspection methods and applicable inspection gauges.
Review welding procedures and ensure proper welding practices are followed.
Perform receiving inspections of incoming materials.
Verify material identification, traceability, and documentation.
Complete and maintain inspection reports and quality documentation using electronic systems.
Perform weekly welding audits and maintain required records.
Communicate quality concerns with production personnel and supervisors in a professional manner.
Participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and quality meetings.
Assist in maintaining compliance with company quality procedures and customer requirements.
Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (Required)
Minimum of 2 years of welding inspection or structural steel fabrication experience.
Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, specifications, and welding symbols.
Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and welding practices.
Experience using welding inspection gauges and measuring equipment.
Strong computer skills with the ability to complete electronic inspection documentation.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience inspecting structural steel fabrication.
Previous experience in a fabrication shop or heavy industrial environment.
Knowledge of material traceability and quality documentation.
Familiarity with AISC fabrication standards.

Tools & Equipment

Experience using:

Welding gauges
Framing squares
Combination squares
Measuring tapes
Angle finders
Magnets and clamps
Flashlights
iPads or other electronic inspection devices

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk throughout a fabrication facility for extended periods.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work safely around welding operations, cranes, forklifts, and heavy equipment.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
