Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Outpatient Coder specializing in Same Day Surgery procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical coding practices, including DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and ICD-10 coding systems. This role involves accurately translating clinical documentation into precise codes to ensure proper billing, reimbursement, and compliance with healthcare regulations. The Outpatient Coder will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of medical records and supporting the revenue cycle process within a dynamic outpatient setting.

Responsibilities

Review and analyze clinical documentation related to same-day surgical procedures to assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT, and codes.
Ensure coding accuracy by adhering to current coding guidelines, policies, and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in medical coding standards, including updates to ICD and CPT coding systems.
Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) systems efficiently for coding and documentation purposes.
Support medical billing and collection processes by providing precise coded data for claims submission.
Conduct audits of coded records to identify errors or inconsistencies and implement corrective actions.
Maintain detailed records of coding activities while ensuring compliance with privacy laws and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

Proven experience in outpatient medical coding, specifically within surgical or hospital outpatient environments.
Strong proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes relevant to outpatient surgery.
Familiarity with medical billing procedures and medical collection practices.
Experience working with Epic and Cerner systems for documentation review and coding purposes.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex clinical documentation accurately.
Strong organizational skills coupled with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Certification such as Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) are mandatory.

Pay: $35.00 - $38.00 per hour
