Full Job Description

REQUIRED SKILLS: (Need Majority; 1+ Years)

Proficiency in using VMware to manage Windows and Linux Servers (1+ years)
Building, configuring, and managing Windows and Linux servers in a complex environment with over 300 servers (1+ years)
Implementing and maintaining security and disaster recovery measures on Windows and Linux servers to safeguard data and applications (1+ years)
Answering support tickets, assisting users with issues related to Windows servers and applications (1+ years)

Strong written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder and user interaction

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS:

Experience in monitoring system performance and uptime
Familiarity with Active Directory, Intune, and/or Microsoft 365
Knowledge of Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems and two-factor authentication, especially Okta
Experience working with MS SQL servers and clusters

INTERVIEW PROCESS:

Conducted via Microsoft Teams
30-minute interview total: 20 minutes of questions + 10 minutes for candidate Q&A

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

The Universities of Wisconsin – System Administration seeks a contractor to help augment our Systems and Engineering team that oversees our IT infrastructure and server systems. The current team members are involved in a project to migrate servers and consolidate systems into new data centers. This position will work with the team, stakeholders, and clients migrating Windows and Linux machines and perform day-to-day systems administration work.

This Technician III position is expected to help manage, configure, and secure infrastructure composed of both Windows and Linux environments using tools such as VMware. The position supports a large environment with over 300 servers and must maintain high standards for data protection, availability, and performance.

Key responsibilities include managing support tickets, assisting users with server and application-related issues, and ensuring proper documentation and communication across teams and stakeholders.
