Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a Communication Systems Technician I to join our dynamic team dedicated to maintaining and enhancing communication infrastructure across various facilities. This entry-level role involves supporting the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of communication systems, including telephony, data networks, and security systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical aptitude, excellent customer service skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This position offers an opportunity to develop expertise in a broad range of telecommunication and network technologies within a fast-paced environment committed to operational excellence.

Duties

At least two (2) years of experience in diagnosing, repairing, programming, and installing mobile communications equipment. 
Team-focused with a passion to meet customer needs.
Strong communications skills for end users and third parties.
Resourceful technicians sometimes need assistance/guidance from others.
Understanding of / willingness to learn two-way radio theory.
Experience operating testing equipment like spectrum analyzers, system analyzers, watt meters, TDRs, FDRs, and multi-meters.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
A valid driver’s license.
Ability to pass a 7-year background check, motor vehicle check, and drug screen.
A two-year degree in Electronics, IT, or applicable subject, preferred.  
P25 and/or MotoTRBO experience, preferred.  
CET certification, preferred.  
Assist with the installation and configuration of communication systems such as LAN, VoIP telephony, and network wiring including Cat5, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling.
Support field service activities by troubleshooting hardware and software issues using diagnostic tools and hand tools.
Perform fiber splicing, cable testing, and RF testing to ensure optimal system performance.
Maintain detailed schematics and technical documentation for installed systems.
Conduct routine inspections of electrical systems, including AC/DC power supplies and low voltage wiring in compliance with NEC standards.
Support network equipment repair and replacement involving Cisco routers, Juniper devices, Avaya systems, and other telecommunication hardware.
Assist in the setup and configuration of computer hardware, network switches, and routers for data centers or client sites.
Use diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters to identify faults in electrical or cabling systems.
Contribute to customer service by providing technical support during system installations or troubleshooting sessions.
Follow safety protocols related to electrical work and telecommunications standards.

Qualifications

Prior experience as a service technician or in a related field involving telecommunication or network installation is preferred.
Knowledge of computer networking concepts including Ethernet, LAN, VLANs, and network wiring practices.
Familiarity with schematics, technical manuals, and telecommunication standards such as NEC.
Hands-on experience with cabling (Cat5, Cat6), fiber splicing, and low voltage wiring.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and RF testers.
Understanding of electrical systems including AC/DC power supplies.
Experience working with telephony systems such as Avaya or similar VoIP platforms.
Ability to operate power tools safely for equipment installation or repair tasks.
Strong customer service orientation with effective communication skills.
Technical proficiency in computer hardware setup and troubleshooting.
Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to client sites as needed.
