Genesee Community Charter Schools (GCCS)

Genesee Community Charter Schools (GCCS) are hiring a Special Education Coordinator to lead special education programs and services across two campuses. You coordinate CSE referrals and reviews, monitor IEP and 504 compliance, oversee special education providers, and lead the school's response to intervention and state testing. You serve on the school leadership team and partner closely with the Executive Director, School Directors, teachers, and families so every student with a disability receives the programs and services they are entitled to. Your time splits across both campuses.

Genesee Community Charter School at RMSC (GCCS) is a public charter school in Rochester, New York educating children in kindergarten through sixth grade more than 400 students in kindergarten through sixth grade across two Rochester campuses. The RMSC campus is authorized by the New York State Board of Regents, and the Flour City campus is authorized by the SUNY Charter Schools Institute. Our mission centers intellectual rigor, community responsibility, and respect for diversity. Both campuses use a place-based, locally grounded curriculum that draws on the cultural and natural resources of our community.

POSITION TITLE: Special Education Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

STATUS: Full Time, 12 months

SALARY RANGE: $55,000-$80,000 based on education, certifications, leadership, experience, and tenure at GCCS.

WORK SITE: Split .5 FTE at the GCCS-RMSC Campus and .5 FTE at the GCCS-Flour City Campus.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Special Education required.
New York State teacher certification in Special Education required.
School Building Leader (SBL) certification preferred.
Classroom experience in elementary special education.
Experience with child behavior consultation.
Expertise across special education instruction and programs, compliance, CSE activities, parent communication and engagement, and professional development.
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization.
Proficiency with current technology and strong organizational and facilitation skills.
NYS fingerprint clearance, or ability to obtain clearance before the start date.
Bilingual candidates in English and Spanish are welcome.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

CSE, Evaluations, and Eligibility

Work with teachers, student support staff, and the School Director to submit referrals for CSE evaluations.
Coordinate testing for referrals and triennials.
Coordinate annual reviews and triennials with districts, and attend CSE meetings.
Perform classroom observations for children suspected of having a disability.

IEPs, 504 Plans, and Behavior plans

Collaborate with teachers, School Directors, and support staff to prepare, monitor, and ensure compliance of Individualized Education Programs.
Coordinate the receipt and distribution of IEPs.
Work with teachers and School Directors to create and update 504 plans.
Facilitate the writing, data tracking, and regular review of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.

Program compliance and monitoring

Coordinate the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of special education programs and services.
Align special education services with school goals, legal requirements, and research-based practices.
Monitor and report service provision so students with disabilities receive programs and services that comply with local, state, and federal law.
Maintain all compliance data related to students with disabilities.
Participate in State Education Department reviews of the school's special education program.
Keep current on changes in special education law, regulations, and procedures.

Special education staff and scheduling

Create and adjust schedules for special education service providers.
Monitor special education consultants, resource room teachers, and related service providers for fidelity to IEP goals, mandates, and documentation.

Data and student support

Use academic, behavioral, attendance, transition, and programmatic data to inform service delivery, student support planning, and program adjustments.
Monitor referrals, IEP service delivery, instructional outcomes, and attendance trends by subgroup, and guide School Directors on special education performance targets.
Respond to parent questions and concerns.
Maintain a log of special education conferences and communications.

Response to intervention and MTSS

Lead RtI team meetings and support the response to academic and behavior intervention systems alongside the School Directors.
Train staff on the Multi-Tiered System of Supports Tier I and Tier II process for academic and behavior interventions.
Work with teachers and districts of residence to prepare and monitor Academic Intervention Plans and RtI documentation.

Assessment and state testing

Coordinate New York State testing, including ordering materials, scheduling space, arranging modifications and make-ups, and returning materials to the state and BOCES.
Administer the performance portion of the science test and coordinate correcting or vendor contracts.
Coordinate state testing schedules with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and determine testing needs with the ENL teacher.
Serve as i-Ready Coordinator and support i-Ready testing schedules and data management.
Administer and score benchmark assessments such as DIBELS and the K-2 Skills Benchmark Assessment.

Collaboration and school presence

Serve as a member of the school leadership team.
Attend School Support Service meetings and participate in supervision and all mandated meetings and trainings.
Support other school needs such as arrival and dismissal.
Adhere to GCCS policies and procedures in the Staff Handbook, staff bulletins, and other documents.

School events and activities

Support school events including Student-Led Conferences, Exhibition Nights, Passage Presentations, Passage Ceremonies, Field Studies, arrival and dismissal, Community Circles, overnight Field Studies, and recruitment and engagement activities.

Note: Work hours may overlap the school day, including before and after school. Special events or projects may take place during early evenings or on weekends.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
