Full Job Description

Title: Substation Engineering Manager

Compensation: Target base salary of approximately $140,000–$180,000+ (flexible based on experience), plus comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with company match.

Location: Remote (U.S.)

Travel: Approximately 10–30%

About the Opportunity

A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a Substation Engineering Manager to lead a team delivering utility and power infrastructure projects across North America. This is an opportunity to play a key leadership role within an expanding power delivery practice while remaining technically engaged on complex transmission and substation projects.

This is a working manager position, combining technical oversight, team leadership, resource planning, and client relationship management.

Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of substation engineers supporting utility and power infrastructure projects.
Manage technical execution to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with client and regulatory requirements.
Review engineering deliverables and provide technical guidance across multiple concurrent projects.
Coordinate engineering resources across multidisciplinary teams to support successful project execution.
Build and maintain strong relationships with existing utility and energy clients.
Support project planning, staffing, scheduling, and engineering quality initiatives.
Provide technical leadership within one or more disciplines, including Protection & Controls, Substation Physical Design, or SCADA/Communications.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Approximately 8–12+ years of experience in substation, transmission, or power delivery engineering.
Experience leading engineering teams, mentoring staff, or managing complex engineering projects.
Strong technical background in Protection & Controls (preferred), Substation Physical Design, or SCADA/Communications.
Experience working within an engineering consulting environment is strongly preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
Familiarity with utility interconnections, renewable energy projects, and power system engineering is a plus.
Willingness to travel approximately 10–30% for client meetings and project site support.
