Project Threadways

Culture and Storytelling Team Member

June 2026

Summary

Project Threadways seeks a part-time Culture & Storytelling Team Member to support the visual and editorial communication of the organization. This role assists in sharing the stories, people, materials, and processes that define our work through digital communications, photography, social media, and online launches.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong eye for design, detail, and visual storytelling, along with experience in graphic design, photography editing, and content organization. This position works closely with the Culture & Storytelling team to support communications that are thoughtful, visually cohesive, and aligned with the mission and aesthetic of Project Threadways.

Key Responsibilities

Content & Communications

Assist with social media planning, scheduling, and posting (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.)
Support the development and organization of content calendars
Create graphics for social media, email campaigns, and organizational communications
Help maintain visual consistency across platforms

Photography & Visual Assets

Editing photography for product launches and media content channels
Organize and maintain digital photo libraries by managing the organization’s Dropbox, upholding its standards, and archival photography organization
Edit photography for online launches, campaigns, and organizational communications
Assist with photography selections and image preparation
Prepare visual assets for website, email, and social media use

Launch & Campaign Support

Executing special projects, including but not limited to brand collaborations, The School of Making, limited-edition programing, and media development
Support online product launches and promotional campaigns
Prepare graphics and imagery for launch materials
Coordinate visual assets to support timely publication

Administrative & Organizational Support

Maintain organized file systems and asset libraries
Assist with project tracking and communications schedules
Writing and editing documents, proofreading, and ability to use excellent English grammar
Collaborating with Project Threadways’ Team forbrand managementand graphic design development as required for product launches, packaging, presentations, display, and ideation
Research for a variety of projects
Understanding all Alabama Chanin and The School of Making techniques and operations

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), or similar design software
Photography editing experience
Strong visual design sensibility and attention to detail
Excellent organizational skills
Strong written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Interest in craft, design, fashion, photography, storytelling, or cultural preservation

Minimum Job Requirements

A background in art and/or design is preferred. Excellent computer and program knowledge, English grammar, sewing skills preferred, color coordination, and an organized personality are an absolute necessity. A positive attitude, creative spirit, enthusiastic engagement with the Project Threadways team and customers, and willingness to follow direction are a must.

Schedule

Part-Time

Approximately 20–25 hours per week

Project Threadways is a 501(c)(3) organization that documents, studies, and interprets history, community, and power through the lens of fashion and textiles. From raw material to finished goods, we seek to understand the impact of textiles on our community, nation, and world. In partnership with Alabama Chanin and The School of Making, we connect people, places, and materials through design, making, and education—with cultural heritage, craft preservation, and creative placemaking at the core of our work.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
