Full Job Description

Overview

PERMA is seeking an experienced Risk Management Consultant to support our municipal members throughout Long Island and the downstate region. We are looking for a professional with a strong background in workers' compensation, risk management, and loss prevention who can help members reduce workplace injuries, improve return-to-work outcomes, and decrease claim frequency and severity through proactive consultation and data-driven risk management strategies.

Working directly with municipalities, the successful candidate will conduct site visits, analyze workers' compensation claim trends, provide training and consultation, assist with safety program development, and deliver practical solutions that improve workplace safety and reduce risk exposures.

Duties

Conduct onsite risk assessments, workplace inspections, and ergonomic evaluations for municipal members.
Analyze workers' compensation claims and loss trends to identify opportunities for injury prevention and cost reduction.
Develop recommendations to reduce claim frequency and severity
Provide safety training and educational programs to member organizations.
Assist with the development of written safety programs, policies, and procedures.
Support the formation and effectiveness of workplace safety committees.
Participate in member orientations, re-orientations, and strategic meetings.
Prepare clear, detailed reports and recommendations following inspections and consultations.

Requirements

Experience in workers' compensation claims, workers compensation insurance, risk management, loss control, safety consulting, or municipal risk programs.
Strong understanding of workers' compensation claims and injury prevention strategies.
Experience analyzing claim data and identifying trends, root causes, and opportunities for injury prevention.
Experience developing strategies to reduce claim frequency, claim severity, and associated costs.
Familiarity with municipal operations, public sector risk management, or insurance pool environments preferred.
Knowledge of occupational safety principles, OSHA standards, and loss prevention best practices.
Experience providing training, presentations, or consulting services.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build productive relationships with member organizations and stakeholders.

This position is responsible for serving members throughout Long Island and the downstate region. Candidates should reside on or near Long Island to effectively support the territory. Regular travel throughout the region is required.

Actual starting salary will be based on experience, education, certifications, workers' compensation and risk management expertise, location and other job-related factors.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
