Full Job Description

The Waste Removal Helper is responsible for heavy manual labor, operating equipment, and collecting garbage and refuse from commercial and residential locations. This position typically requires a work schedule of 5 to 6 days per week, starting at 5:30 a.m. or earlier.

**Key Duties:*

Assist the driver with the collection of garbage and refuse.
Direct the driver when backing into alleyways, watching for obstacles, pedestrians, and oncoming traffic.
Lift weights of up to 50-60 lbs.
Retrieve and empty trash cans into the truck.
Ensure that the service area is free of all trash.

**Supplemental Information:**

Must have reliable transportation to and from headquarters and arrive on time.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Prior experience of two or more years as a helper on house or commercial waste removal routes is required.
Knowledge of DC roadways is helpful.
Must be able to work as part of a team.
Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other co-workers and the general public throughout the workday.
The capability to learn new tasks quickly and to work with minimal supervision.
Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform sustained and heavy manual labor for long periods of time under varying weather conditions.
Availability to work on Saturdays if needed.
Notifies Route Manager of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleyways, or potential safety hazards.
Communicates customer requests to the Route Manager.
Identifies and reports all containers that require repair or replacement.
