Full Job Description

Latitude is assisting a well-known consumer food product company in identifying an experienced Labor & Employment attorney with strong Illinois employment law experience to provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance on a part-time basis.

The ideal attorney will have deep familiarity with the evolving Illinois employment law landscape, including the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act and the growing patchwork of paid and unpaid leave obligations impacting employers. This role will support the business with day-to-day counseling, compliance guidance, policy interpretation, and practical risk assessment related to employee leave and workplace issues.

Key Requirements

Significant experience practicing labor & employment law in Illinois
Strong working knowledge of the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act and related Illinois/Federal leave laws
Experience advising employers on paid and unpaid leave administration, accommodations, and workplace compliance issues
Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance in a fast-moving environment
Strong counseling and stakeholder management skills
Comfortable supporting HR and business teams on day-to-day employment law questions
Ability to work in a flexible, part-time advisory capacity (approximately 10 hours/week initially)

Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in Illinois
Meaningful experience practicing labor & employment law with a focus on employer-side counseling
Strong knowledge of Illinois employment laws, including the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act and related leave and accommodation requirements
Experience advising HR teams and business stakeholders on day-to-day employment law and compliance matters
Ability to provide practical, risk-balanced guidance in a business-facing environment
Excellent communication, issue-spotting, and problem-solving skills
Prior in-house or regular client counseling experience preferred
Ability to work independently in a flexible, part-time advisory role.

Position Details

Type of role: Engagement role
Schedule: Part-Time (10 hours per week initially)
Location: Fully Remote.

Compensation:

Pay: The annualized pay for this position ranges from $180,000 to $275,000 when calculated on a full-time basis. Pay for contract engagements is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and the candidate’s preference (each candidate’s pay rate affects the client bill rate which can affect the candidate’s competitiveness for the position).

Benefits: In addition to pay, all Latitude contract professionals receive complimentary professional liability insurance coverage. Latitude contract professionals are usually W2 employees of Latitude and are eligible for full benefits when working in roles for 20 hours per week. Benefits-eligible Latitude contract professionals receive complimentary Group Life, LTD and AD&D. A qualified 401k plan is also available. Benefits-eligible Latitude Attorneys also receive a CLE and Professional Expense stipend.
