Tau Six, an agile small company delivering cutting edge cybersecurity and systems integration services to the US National Security market, has an immediate need for a Senior IT Management Consultant to provide support to a Chief Information Officer within a Department of Defense customer. The Senior Information Technology Management Consultant provides senior-level advisory, analytical, and operational support to a Chief Information Officer (CIO) within the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) under a Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) contract. The consultant serves as a trusted advisor to senior government leadership, supporting enterprise IT management, governance, budgeting, cybersecurity oversight, and program execution, while maintaining the independence required of a SETA role.
This position requires extensive experience operating in DoD research and development environments, including support to Special Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Program (SAP) IT systems, and a demonstrated ability to navigate the unique governance, security, and coordination challenges present at the Department's most senior levels.
Key Responsibilities
CIO Strategy, Governance, and Policy Support
- Provide senior advisory support to the agency CIO on enterprise IT strategy, governance, and execution

Support development, coordination, and implementation of IT policies, directives, and guidance in alignment with DoD-wide regulations

Assist in aligning CIO initiatives with DoD CIO, OMB, and SAP IT and cybersecurity policies

Facilitate and support governance bodies, including investment review boards, change/configuration control boards, and senior steering committees

Coordinate with both internal and external stakeholders to meet organizational IT and cybersecurity objectives
IT Budget, Financial, and Cost Management
- Support formulation, justification, and execution of IT budgets, including POM, FYDP, and PB cycles

Track and analyze IT program costs, obligations, and expenditures, including classified activities

Develop cost estimates, funding profiles, and decision-quality financial analyses

Support responses to internal audits, senior leadership inquiries, and external oversight reviews
Program and Project Management Oversight
- Provide oversight and analytical support to IT programs and initiatives, including classified and SAP IT efforts

Track schedules, milestones, risks, and issues across complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives

Support development of integrated master schedules, performance metrics, and executive briefings

Ensure IT initiatives align with DoD acquisition lifecycle processes and CIO governance requirements
Cybersecurity, SAP IT, and Risk Oversight
- Provide advisory support related to cybersecurity governance, compliance, and risk management

Support oversight of Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities for both unclassified and classified systems

Assist with governance and compliance for Special Access Program (SAP) IT environments

Assist the CIO in tracking cybersecurity risks, mitigation plans, ATO status, and continuous monitoring activities

Coordinate with security, counterintelligence, and SAP security officials as required
Workforce, Contractor, and Organizational Support
- Support agency CIO leadership in IT workforce planning and organizational alignment

Provide advisory support related to oversight of government and contractor IT personnel

Assist with development of staffing plans, skill gap analyses, and workforce modernization efforts

Ensure contractor activities remain compliant with SETA boundaries and non-inherently governmental functions
Executive-Level Support and Communications
- Prepare executive briefings, decision memoranda, white papers, and senior leader support materials

Support leadership meetings, working groups, and strategic planning sessions

Serve as a liaison between the agency CIO organization and DoD Components, Intelligence Community partners, and external stakeholders

Provide independent assessments and recommendations consistent with OSD and SETA requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field

12+ years of experience in senior IT management, consulting, or advisory roles

Demonstrated experience supporting OSD-level CIO organizations or equivalent DoD headquarters elements

Proven experience supporting Special Access Program (SAP) IT environments

Strong knowledge of:

Cybersecurity governance, RMF, and classified system compliance

Program and project management best practices in highly classified environments

Experience operating in a SETA/advisory capacity, providing independent, non-conflicted support to senior government leadership
Certifications (Preferred)
- PMP, ITIL, or equivalent project/service management certification

CISSP, CISM, or equivalent cybersecurity certification

DAWIA, FAC-P/PM, or familiarity with DoD acquisition processes
Security Clearance
- Active DoD Top Secret clearance required

Eligibility for SAP and SCI access required (SAP indoctrination highly preferred)
