Metropolitan Hospitality Group (MHG) is a leading hospitality group in the DC Metropolitan area with an employee-first culture. We're looking for a positive, friendly, hardworking, hospitality-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team.

Essential Job Functions Include:

Maintain the general ledger and complete monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
Prepare and analyze financial statements and supporting schedules.
Perform balance sheet, income statement, and bank account reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies.
Analyze actual financial performance compared to budget and forecast expectations.
Research accounting issues and prepare supporting documentation for management review.
Record journal entries and ensure transactions are accurately reflected in the financial records.
Reconcile and maintain prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accruals, and intercompany accounts.
Support annual audits and provide requested schedules and documentation.
Review and analyze general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Prepare sales tax, business license, and other regulatory filings as required.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
Collaborate with operational teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Provide detailed financial analysis of actual results compared to budget and forecast expectations.
Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned entities and build effective working relationships with operations management.
Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel functions, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, HLOOKUPs, XLOOKUPs, and complex formulas to analyze financial data.
Adapt quickly and perform effectively in a fast-paced, results-oriented, and continuously evolving environment.
Anticipate work needs, prioritize responsibilities, and follow through until tasks are completed accurately and thoroughly reviewed.
Work independently while also collaborating with team members on special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned.

Background Screening

Successful completion of a background screening will be required as a condition of hire.

Education and Experience

* Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

* Minimum 2 years related work experience

* Strong knowledge of accounting and generally accepted accounting practices.

* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

* Prefer experience working with QuickBooks Online.

* Restaurant, hospitality, or multi-entity accounting experience.

Competencies and Skills

Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word), QuickBooks Online, Ability to learn new software.

Excellent English language skills, both verbal and written.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a salaried, exempt position paying between $65K - $75K commensurate with experience. This position qualifies for Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, and is bonus eligible.

Job Type

Full-time exempt position. MHG offers this role a flexible schedule but requires in-person work Monday through Friday.
