NONPROFIT STAFF ACCOUNTANT JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING LEADERSHIP

Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
Coordinate annual audit activity.
Present financial reports as requested in an accurate and timely manner.
Develop or manage individual program budgets with input from each program director, as well as an organizational budget, with inclusion from senior leadership.
Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
Provide monthly review of each grant’s individual budget with each program director, highlighting potential increased costs in housing, services, insurance needs, staffing, etc. that would lead to renegotiating the contract in a timely manner to ensure both parties are apprised and in agreement.
Work closely and supportively with the CEO, BOD and other team members.
Manage and track the performance of invested assets as needed.
Manage and facilitate all reporting and renewal requirements associated with the 501c3 at both the State & Federal levels. Notify leadership of any changes in process or requirements to ensure that the organization’s nonprofit status remains in good standing.

TEAM LEADERSHIP

Encourage and increase the the understanding of program directors, helping them to grow and expand their knowledge. Extra time would be needed with new program directors so that they learn and fully understand their budget.
Must maintain a friendly, outgoing, and positive attitude, understanding that your job is to help others as needed through education, explanation, or research on new methods that would provide a better solution.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a talented leader, ideally with 5+ years of accounting and finance experience in both nonprofit and municipal sectors. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing the financials for multiple programs, as well as an understanding of federal, state, county, and city contracts and grants.

Specific requirements include:

Reports to, and partners with the CEO to identify, leverage, and solidify new revenue opportunities ranging from grants, gifts, new governmental contracts and community collaborations; all the while keeping an eye out for new revenue streams.
Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to the organization’s mission. A hands-on strategic thinker who will own and take seriously their responsibilities for the sustainability of the organization.
Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
A clearly defined track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate sponsorships, and/or foundation grants is essential.
B.A. Degree in Finance, or will consider confirmable experience in noted areas.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board or other outside partners.
