Summary

The Merchandising Assistant supports the merchandising team in planning, buying, and managing product assortments to maximize sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction. This entry-to-mid-level role serves as a key support position in retail, e-commerce, fashion, or consumer goods companies. It blends analytical work, vendor coordination, and creative input to ensure the right products are in the right place at the right time.

Responsibilities

Maintain appointment calendar (in buyer's absence)
Take messages and return calls in buyer's absence
Prepare store memos
Return samples to vendors/companies
Enter purchase order information into computer system
Assign SKU# to all styles
Communicate with stores and vendors
Print out weekly buying reports
Distribute mail and reports
Compile all weekly and monthly inventories
Approve transfers
Cooperate with management and other buying staff associates
Assist team members and help in other areas as directed by supervisor or management

Qualifications

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications (Word, Excel, AS400, etc.)
Experience with office equipment (printer, calculator, etc.)
Must possess excellent written, verbal communication skills; good phone etiquette
Organization and time management skills
Consistency and reliability
Sitting for extended periods of time
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

Required Experience

Microsoft Office ( Word, Excel, Outlook, Etc.)
1–2 years of retail, merchandising, or buying support experience preferred
Familiarity with merchandising or inventory management software (e.g., retail ERP systems)
Some travel to store locations may be required
Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment with shifting priorities

Required Education

High School diploma or equivalent
