Job Description and Duties

This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento.

Are you an Information Technology (IT) professional eager to shape and implement cutting-edge technologies? Are you dependable, motivated, enthusiastic, and have the desire to serve the citizens of California? If so, DMV's Innovation Product Section needs you! Under direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the Information Technology Specialist I will be responsible for application development, product resolution management and system support. This includes design, development, maintenance and support of complex software applications, middleware system components and performance monitoring. The incumbent will independently troubleshoot and diagnose critical application issues and incidents, escalating when required. The Information Technology Specialist I maintains expertise in various software and services, utilizing Java, JavaScript, NodeJS, React and PostgreSQL. The Application Developer will act as the subject matter expert with knowledge of current industry standards, best practices, and trends related to the software development lifecycle.

Working Conditions

Part-time telework available. Telework requires California residency. This position offers hybrid telework opportunities; however, telework arrangements are subject to change at any time based on State & departmental operational needs. Employees may be required to report to the office as necessary.

DMV operates 24/7, and the incumbent may be required to carry a work cell phone and laptop. There may be occasions when travel to out of town conferences is necessary, or when evening and weekend work is required to meet project timelines. Telework Option – Hybrid This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement for applicants who reside in California. A hybrid schedule includes a combination of remote work and on site reporting to the office.

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is a recognized leader in public service and has existed for over 100 years. The DMV is responsible for registering approximately 36 million vehicles in California, and serving 34 million driver license and identification card holders, collecting over $14 billion in annual revenue. The DMV also maintains and oversees many other functions.
