Entry-Level Civil CAD Technician Position
Jacobson Consulting Engineers is hiring an Entry-Level Civil CAD Technician to support civil site development projects in the Puget Sound area. This position is intended for candidates with 0 to 2 years of related drafting experience, including internships, academic projects, related coursework, or early professional experience.
The ideal candidate will have strong AutoCAD skills, an interest in civil engineering drawing production, and the motivation to continue developing technical drafting skills in a collaborative civil engineering environment. Prior Civil 3D experience is preferred, but training and mentorship will be provided.
The Entry-Level Civil CAD Technician will work under the direction of licensed engineers, project managers, and senior CAD staff to prepare, revise, and maintain civil engineering drawings for permitting, bidding, and construction. This role will support drawing production, translate engineering markups into clear construction documents, maintain structured CAD files, and follow company and project drafting standards.
Projects will span a variety of sectors, including K-12 and Higher Education Facilities, Healthcare, Commercial and Office developments, Municipal, and more.
This role will begin full-time in-office during onboarding and training, and will transition to a hybrid model after demonstrated proficiency and independent job performance.

Entry-Level Civil CAD Technician Essential Responsibilities
- Produce and revise detailed CAD drawings for civil site development projects
- Translate engineering markups into polished construction documents while maintaining precision, consistency, and clarity
- Support drawing production for site plans, grading plans, utility plans, storm drainage plans, details, and related civil engineering documents
- Assist with permit plan sets, grading and utility exhibits, redline updates, and design revisions
- Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Bluebeam to assist with drawing preparation, review, and coordination
- Support design tasks under the direction of licensed engineers, project managers, and senior CAD staff
- Maintain organized drawing files and follow JCE drafting standards, file naming procedures, and project-specific CAD requirements
- Annotate and update drawings, details, notes, dimensions, and plan references
- Review work for completeness, accuracy, and consistency before internal review
- Coordinate with team members to resolve drafting questions and incorporate review comments
- Develop working knowledge of civil site design standards, drawing organization, pipe networks, surfaces, and construction document production
Candidate Qualifications and Attributes
- 0 to 2 years of related CAD drafting experience, including internships, academic projects, related coursework, or early professional experience
- Valid driver’s license required
- Associate’s degree or certificate in Civil Design Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or related technical training is preferred
- Strong AutoCAD skills required
- Prior Civil 3D experience is preferred, but not required
- Basic understanding of civil site plans, drawing organization, scales, details, and construction document formatting
- Experience using Bluebeam for document review, markup, or coordination is preferred
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated, hardworking, and dependable
- Interest in developing advanced Civil 3D skills and growing into higher-level CAD Technician or Designer responsibilities
Compensation
- $27-$31/hour (depending on experience)
- 1.5x pay for any time worked over 40 hours per week
