DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on developing drafting skills and supporting the creation of transportation plans during a structured 12-month training program. Upon successful completion of the training program, final job placement will be in the Design Unit. Primary components of this role include preparing drawings, using design software, and assisting designers with plan development from early sketches to final documents. As an Engineering Technician, you will perform the following duties:
- Drafting Tasks: Prepare highway, bridge, and right-of-way plans using Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) workstations and basic drafting tools
- Design Support: Assist with checking grades, drawing profiles, creating cross sections, and calculating earthwork and materials
- Survey Use: Interpret deeds, survey notes, and three dimensional data to develop accurate plan sheets
- Plan Preparation: Create layouts, drainage sheets, maps, sketches, graphs, and other materials for presentations and design work
- Technical Tools: Use systems such as Roadway Management System (RMS) and Auto Tab to gather information and produce tabulations, summaries, and estimates
- Field Participation: Take part in field views, inspections, and meetings and prepare meeting minutes when needed
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of the probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. - Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
