Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Bookkeeper to support our accounting team in maintaining accurate financial records. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in bookkeeping principles, with experience in various accounting software and financial concepts. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical accounting skills within a dynamic organization committed to financial integrity and transparency. The Assistant Bookkeeper will assist with account reconciliations, and supporting the preparation of financial reports, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining the general ledger by recording journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accuracy of financial data.
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing and payment tracking.
Perform bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are properly classified according to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Help prepare financial reports by gathering data, analyzing account balances, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
Manage payroll processing activities and ensure timely submission of tax filings related to payroll and other statutory requirements.
Support budgeting activities by tracking expenses, monitoring variances, and assisting in financial analysis.
Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or Quicken to perform daily bookkeeping tasks efficiently.
Conduct account analysis and general ledger reconciliation to maintain accurate financial records across multiple accounts.
Assist with year-end closing procedures, including balance sheet reconciliation and audit preparation when necessary.

Skills

Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks platforms.
Strong understanding of corporate accounting practices and non-profit accounting procedures.
Knowledge of GAAP standards, double entry bookkeeping, and financial concepts such as debits & credits, journal entries, and account reconciliation.
Experience with governmental accounting processes and tax-related activities is desirable.
Ability to perform bank reconciliations, account analysis, and general ledger accounting accurately.
Familiarity with payroll processing systems and tax compliance requirements related to payroll activities.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; proficiency in 10 key typing is a plus.
