Full Job Description

Set-up & Process Technician

2nd Shift Schedule:
Work four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM.

Position Summary:

The Set-Up & Process Technician at H&L Advantage is responsible for the setup, operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of injection molding equipment and related production systems. This role performs mold and die changes, machine start-up and shut-down procedures, process adjustments, and equipment troubleshooting to maintain efficient production and high-quality output. The technician works closely with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure safe, continuous, and efficient manufacturing operations while maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to all safety standards.

Core Accountabilities:

Die & Mold Setup: Efficiently remove and install molds and dies in machinery to support production schedules and minimize downtime. Prepare machines and auxiliary equipment for production runs and verify proper setup prior to start-up.
Process Start-Up, Monitoring & Adjustment: Perform complete machine start-up and shut-down procedures in accordance with production requirements and quality standards. Monitor machine operations and make process adjustments to maintain optimal production quality, including temperature, pressure, speed, and timing settings. Ensure production processes remain stable and efficient throughout the shift.
Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to injection molding processes, robotics, auxiliary equipment, molds, and machine performance. Identify setup and production issues independently and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and scrap. Escalate complex technical or maintenance issues when necessary.
Process Optimization: Evaluate production methods, equipment performance, and workflow to improve efficiency, productivity, and product quality. Assist in implementing continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancements.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment to transport molds, dies, and materials. Perform routine maintenance and inspections on machinery and support equipment to ensure operational readiness.
Inventory & Documentation Management: Monitor and maintain inventory levels for tooling, setup supplies, and production materials. Complete and maintain accurate production documentation, setup records, process logs, changeover information, and productivity reports.
Shift Communication & Collaboration: Facilitate effective communication between incoming and outgoing shifts to ensure continuity of operations. Collaborate closely with production personnel, engineering, quality assurance, maintenance, and management teams to address operational issues and improve processes.
Production Team Support: Assist production personnel with process-related issues and provide technical support as needed. Ensure necessary supplies and materials are available to maintain efficient operations.
Safety Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company policies and environmental, health, and safety regulations. Properly wear and utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
Additional Duties: Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support company objectives.

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate degree or postsecondary certificate in a related technical discipline preferred
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in plastic injection molding.
Prior experience with machine setup, process troubleshooting, and process optimization required.
Crane and Forklift Certification required – provided onsite.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong mechanical aptitude with in-depth knowledge of injection molding machines, robotics, auxiliary equipment, and manufacturing processes.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process-related issues efficiently and effectively.
Familiarity with robotic systems and manufacturing software such as Mattec, CMS, and RJG preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changing production needs.
Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and related manufacturing systems.
Ability to learn new equipment, technologies, and production processes quickly.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, stretch, and move throughout the facility for prolonged periods.
Ability to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and work platforms safely.
Capable of traversing uneven shop floor surfaces safely.
Strong manual dexterity and visual acuity for handling tools, equipment, and product inspections.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, with occasionally heavier lifting requirements.
Ability to respond quickly to production issues, alarms, and safety hazards.
Ability to properly wear and use required PPE throughout the workday.

Environmental Conditions:

Manufacturing plant environment with seasonal temperature variations, including warmer summers and heated winters.
Exposure to typical manufacturing conditions include noise, dust, odors, oils, and occasional chemical fumes.
