Field Technician I (Level 1)

Overview — Onsite in Oahu — You must live on Oahu to Apply!

The Field Technician I (FT I) provides hands-on technical support at client sites across Oahu. This role is responsible for resolving Tier 1 issues in person, performing hardware installations and workstation deployments, and serving as the face of the company during onsite visits.

As a dispatch-based role, the FT I travels between client locations to handle deskside support, equipment setup, and "smart hands" tasks in coordination with remote engineers. The FT I documents all work, follows established procedures, and escalates more complex issues to higher-level technicians when necessary. This is an individual contributor role with no supervisory responsibilities, and it serves as a natural stepping stone toward a Service Desk (Help Desk Technician) role for those looking to grow their IT career.

Location: Onsite / field-based across Oahu (dispatched from Honolulu office)

Key ResponsibilitiesOnsite Support & Ticket Management

Respond to dispatched service tickets at client sites, including:
Deskside hardware and software troubleshooting
Workstation setup, imaging, deployment, and swaps
Printer and peripheral installation and repair
Password resets, account lockouts, and basic Microsoft 365 support
Common end-user requests requiring an onsite presence
Perform equipment installs, moves, adds, and changes (IMAC) at client locations
Act as "smart hands" for remote engineers (rack-and-stack, cable tracing, device reboots, physical checks)
Accurately document troubleshooting steps, findings, and resolutions in the ticketing system before leaving each site
Follow established escalation procedures for Tier 2+ issues
Meet defined SLA, response time, and arrival window expectations
Assist with remote Help Desk ticket overflow when not in the field

Customer Service

Represent the company professionally at client sites — appearance, punctuality, and communication all matter
Communicate clearly, professionally, and courteously with users
Set expectations for timelines and next steps before leaving a site
Maintain a calm, service-oriented approach when handling issues
Escalate recurring or high-impact issues to senior staff or management

Technical Support Scope

Support Windows and macOS devices
Perform basic Active Directory and Azure AD (Entra ID) tasks (e.g., password resets, account unlocks, group updates)
Support Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint — basic level)
Conduct basic network troubleshooting onsite (connectivity, Wi-Fi, VPN, cable testing, patching)
Install and support printers, phones, tablets, and other peripherals
Perform physical network tasks under direction (patch panel work, AP/switch swaps, labeling)
Follow company security policies and best practices, including physical security at client sites

Processes & Documentation

Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and documentation requirements
Use internal knowledge base articles and troubleshooting guides
Update site documentation (network maps, equipment inventories, photos) after onsite work
Contribute to documentation improvements as needed
Identify recurring issues and report trends to the Help Desk Lead or management

Additional Duties

Perform other duties as assigned to support Help Desk operations, client needs, and business objectives

Qualifications (Required)

No prior professional experience required — this is an entry-level role
Genuine interest in technology and a desire to build a career in IT
Basic knowledge of computers (hardware components, Windows navigation, common applications)
Interest in growing into a Service Desk role is preferred — this position is designed as a pathway to Tier 1/Tier 2 Help Desk work
Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to follow procedures, document work accurately, and escalate appropriately
Strong troubleshooting instincts and time-management skills

Technical Knowledge (Helpful but Not Required)

Microsoft 365
Active Directory (basic user management)
Windows and macOS operating systems
Basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, cabling)

Preferred Certifications

CompTIA A+, Microsoft Fundamentals, or similar

Other Requirements

Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable vehicle
Ability to travel island-wide to client sites daily
Smartphone for dispatch, ticketing, and communication apps

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Majority of time spent in the field at client sites, with office time for staging, prep, and remote ticket work
Daily travel between client locations across Oahu
May require overtime or after-hours support
Use of personal vehicle for work-related travel
Communicate effectively in English
Lift and carry 50–75 lbs (equipment handling)
Perform physical tasks (bending, lifting, reaching, working under desks, climbing ladders)
Read and interpret technical information

Pay-scale: $16–$23 per hour Depending on Experience
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM after hours as required.
