HOWARD ELECTRIC Accountant / Office Manager – Construction Company

Position: Accountant / Office Manager
Location: Remote (U.S. applicants preferred)
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Accountant / Office Manager to join our growing construction company. This is a remote position requiring someone who is dependable, proactive, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate has a strong accounting background within the construction industry and is comfortable identifying and correcting accounting discrepancies while maintaining accurate financial records moving forward. This position is well suited for someone who takes ownership of their work, is detail-oriented, and enjoys creating organized systems.

Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day accounting operations.
Review, reconcile, and correct historical accounting errors.
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure transactions are properly recorded.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
Prepare financial reports and assist with month-end and year-end closing.
Maintain organized company records and documentation.
Assist with payroll processing and related reporting, if applicable.
Coordinate administrative and office management tasks.
Monitor deadlines and complete work without the need for constant direction.
Recommend and implement improvements to accounting and administrative processes.

Qualifications

Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience within the construction industry (required).
Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing and project-based accounting.
Experience reconciling accounts and correcting prior accounting discrepancies.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize work independently.
Comfortable working remotely and managing responsibilities without frequent supervision.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with accounting software and Quickbooks Online.

While guidance and support will always be available, this role requires someone who can recognize priorities, solve problems independently, and consistently follow through on responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with small to mid-sized construction companies.
Knowledge of prevailing wage reporting, contractor licensing requirements, or certified payroll is a plus.
Experience with QuickBooks and construction management software is preferred.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
