Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller supports the CFO by owning and strengthening core accounting processes, with a primary focus on general ledger reconciliations, budgeting support, insurance renewals, timely close activities and the timely preparation of key business metrics including financial reporting. The role is hands‑on and execution‑focused, responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial results along with crucial business metrics, supporting month‑end and year‑end close, and preparing the company for a clean and timely audit.

Responsibilities:

Support the CFO in the execution and oversight of core accounting processes, with primary responsibility for assigned areas. Uphold, follow, and improve established accounting processes and procedures, and create or formalize processes where gaps or inefficiencies are identified, to support the organization in achieving its annual goals.
Support the monthly close process by managing assigned close tasks and supporting the accounting team.
Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a timely basis. Prepare, review, and approve reconciliations; analyze general ledger fluctuations; explain variances; and propose corrections as needed to ensure financial results are complete and accurate.
Assist with the company’s budgeting process, including ownership of timelines, coordination with department leaders, and working with the CFO to prepare schedules, analyses, and supporting documentation. Maintain documentation of the budgeting process and key tasks.
Coordinate the annual insurance renewal process, including data gathering, schedule and form preparation, and creation or improvement of processes and tasks to strengthen documentation and efficiency.
Oversee the year end close and audit process by adhering to defined deadlines and tasks, preparing required schedules and analyses, and supporting audit fieldwork to ensure a timely close and completion of the annual audit

Requirements

4 - 6 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
Hands‑on, detail‑oriented approach with the ability to execute, review, and follow through on assigned responsibilities.
Solid understanding of accounting processes and how they support company operations.
Ability to understand and explain underlying details of general ledger activity, reconciliations, and financial variances.
Ability to identify issues, ask questions, and recommend practical improvements based on observed accounting activity.
Comfortable working at a detailed level while meeting defined deadlines and expectations.
Strong accounting foundation, including general ledger, reconciliations, close processes, and financial reporting.
Well organized, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, projects, priorities, and timelines.
Adaptable to changing priorities during month‑end, year‑end, audit, and budgeting cycles.
Strong Excel skills required; experience reviewing and maintaining schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.

Educational Background:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Public accounting experience preferred
CPA or equivalent preferred
