Full Job Description

Controller – Transportation & Logistics Industry (On-Site)

Location: Westminster, Colorado
Job Type: Full-Time, In-Person
Reports To: CEO, President, or CFO

Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for leading all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal control functions for growing transportation and multiple other organizations. This role partners closely with operations, management, compliance, and executive leadership to provide financial insight that drives profitability, efficiency, and growth.

The ideal candidate has strong accounting leadership experience and a background in transportation, trucking, freight, logistics, fleet operations, or supply chain management. The Controller will oversee financial reporting, cost analysis, customer billing, payroll support, and regulatory compliance while ensuring accurate and timely financial information across multiple organizations.

Essential Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Reporting

Manage all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Fixed Assets.
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
Prepare accurate financial statements.
Develop and maintain financial reporting packages for executive leadership.
Analyze key financial and operational metrics, including revenue, margins, fuel costs, maintenance expenses, and fleet utilization.
Support strategic planning and business growth initiatives.
Ensure accurate revenue recognition and customer billing for freight, logistics, and transportation services.
Analyze route profitability, customer profitability, and fleet performance metrics.
Partner with operations leadership to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Will manage in house accounting team and processes for all companies.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecast processes.
Monitor cash flow and working capital requirements.
Perform variance analysis and provide recommendations for corrective action.
Support pricing decisions, contract reviews, and profitability initiatives.
Develop financial models to support growth and capital investment decisions.

Compliance & Internal Controls

Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
Coordinate annual audits and tax filings.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, DOT, and industry-specific reporting requirements.
Manage banking relationships and financial risk mitigation programs.
Manage Tax advisory relationships.
Maintain accurate documentation and audit readiness.

Leadership & Team Development

Lead and mentor accounting and administrative staff.
Establish performance goals and development plans.
Improve accounting processes, reporting systems, and financial controls.
Collaborate with operations, dispatch, HR, safety, and executive teams to support company objectives.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
2+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
Advanced Excel and Quickbooks/accounting software experience.
Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.

Preferred

Experience in trucking, freight, logistics, transportation, warehousing, or fleet-based operations preferred.
Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), fleet management software, or logistics accounting platforms preferred.
Multi-entity accounting experience - mandatory.

Compensation

Expected Salary Range: $110,000–$140,000 annually, depending on experience, credentials, and transportation industry expertise.
