Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of Blackwatch's Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership while overseeing the Company's accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and government contract financial compliance functions.
This role is ideal for a finance leader who has successfully progressed through senior accounting or finance leadership roles and is ready to take the next step into an executive position. Working closely with the President, the CFO will help shape the Company's financial strategy, strengthen operational performance, and build a scalable finance organization capable of supporting Blackwatch's continued growth.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with sound business judgment, leadership skills, and a desire to grow as an executive within a dynamic government contracting environment.
Executive Leadership
- Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and provide financial leadership across the organization.
- Partner with the President to develop and execute the Company's financial strategy and support long-term business objectives.
- Provide executive leadership with meaningful financial reporting, operational analysis, and recommendations to improve profitability and organizational performance.
- Develop executive dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and financial reporting packages.
- Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Support strategic growth initiatives by providing financial analysis, forecasting, and decision support.
- Build a scalable Finance organization capable of supporting the Company's continued growth.
Financial Leadership
- Provide executive oversight of all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, and financial reporting.
- Partner with VP of Human Resources to support payroll accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure strong internal controls, financial governance, and accounting policies.
- Lead continuous process improvement initiatives and accounting system enhancements.
Government Contract Financial Compliance
- Provide executive oversight of all accounting activities supporting the Company's government contracts.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS, DCAA requirements, and other applicable government contracting regulations.
- Oversee indirect rate calculations, forecasting, monitoring, and variance analysis.
- Direct preparation and review of provisional billing rates, incurred cost submissions (ICE), annual indirect rate proposals, and other required government financial submissions.
- Lead DCAA audits, financial statement audits, and other government compliance reviews.
- Partner with the VP of Contracts to ensure the financial components of contract awards, modifications, funding changes, and project setup are accurately reflected within Unanet.
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for revenue recognition, indirect cost allocation, labor distribution, and financial reporting.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead the annual budgeting process.
- Develop rolling forecasts, financial projections, and cash flow analyses.
- Analyze organizational financial performance and communicate significant trends and variances to executive leadership.
- Monitor profitability by contract, customer, and business unit.
- Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support executive decision-making.
- Recommend strategies to improve operational efficiency, profitability, and cash flow.
Treasury & Corporate Finance
- Oversee cash management, liquidity planning, and working capital management.
- Develop short- and long-term cash flow forecasts.
- Maintain relationships with banking partners and oversee treasury activities.
- Coordinate annual tax support, insurance renewals, and financial reporting requirements.
- Support annual budgeting and financial planning processes across the organization.
- Evaluate financial systems and recommend investments that improve operational efficiency and scalability.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance and Accounting team.
- Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and professional development plans.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Build scalable accounting and financial processes that support organizational growth.
- Partner closely with Human Resources, Operations, Program Management, and the Vice President of Contracts to ensure sound financial management across the organization.
- Serve as the Company's executive resource for financial reporting, accounting, government contract financial compliance, and financial operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA certification strongly preferred.
- MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of government contracting finance or accounting experience.
- Minimum of 5 years leading accounting or finance teams.
- Experience serving as a Senior Controller, Controller, Director of Finance, Assistant Controller, Vice President of Finance, or similar senior finance leadership role.
- Advanced experience with Unanet ERP required.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP, FAR, CAS, DCAA compliance, indirect rates, revenue recognition, and government contract accounting.
- Experience preparing and reviewing incurred cost submissions (ICE), provisional billing rates, annual indirect rate proposals, and financial statements.
- Experience leading DCAA audits, financial statement audits, and external compliance reviews.
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and cash flow management.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and financial analysis capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with executive leadership and support organizational growth.
- Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on financial management in a fast-paced, growing organization.

- Prior CFO experience within a small or mid-sized government contractor.
- Experience supporting organizations through rapid growth and organizational change.
- Experience building and developing high-performing finance teams.
- Experience implementing accounting system enhancements, ERP improvements, or financial process automation.
- Experience developing executive dashboards, KPIs, and financial reporting packages.
- Demonstrated success serving as a strategic advisor to executive leadership.
