Full Job Description

Accounting Associate

DEPARTMENT: Finance

LOCATION: 345 Main Street, Catskill, NY

REPORTS TO: Assistant Controller

SUPERVISES: None

GRADE: 12

RANGE: $50,000-$60,000 Commensurate with Education and Experience

FLSA: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accounting Associate is responsible for general ledger accounting, assisting with the end-of-month close process, performing account reconciliations, and supporting the Finance team in the preparation and review of SEC and regulatory reports.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with managing general ledger accounting, including reconciliation, analysis of financial accounts and preparation of journal entries and financial reports
Prepare reports used for data analysis, budgeting, planning and asset/liability management for the financial institution
Utilize reporting tools to assist in the development of reports
Support internal control over financial reporting throughout the institution
Collaborate with the Assistant Controller and Controller in testing and reviewing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, GAAP, SEC, Federal rules and regulations
Provide support in development and documentation of policies and procedures
Assist in preparation and/or proofing of periodic, quarterly and annual SEC and other regulatory reports
Provide support to internal and external auditors as well as regulatory examiners
Assist other Finance Department staff members as needed

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required.
Bank accounting and/or audit experience is preferred.
One to two years of experience preparing accounting entries and performing account reconciliations is preferred.
Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is required.
Strong analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of internal controls and the ability to document processes.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; self-motivation is important.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Previous experience querying databases is desirable.

BANK SECRECY ACT (BSA)

Before assuming any duties, each employee will be trained in the proper filing and logging procedures for large

currency transactions and the sale of monetary instruments.

Each employee will immediately report suspicious currency transactions or activity to their immediate supervisor or the BSA Officer.

All employees will become familiar with how their customers handle their accounts and will report any transactions that are not within the normal activities of the customer. The employee will be trained in compliance with the BSA, USA PATRIOT ACT and associated laws and regulations under the Bank’s Compliance Program as it pertains to his or her job functions. Employees are expected to meet all compliance requirements as stated within the Bank’s BSA/AML/CIP/OFAC Program. Failure to meet these compliance standards may adversely affect performance appraisals and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination. Employee’s compliance violations may result in termination, individual fines, and possible imprisonment.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
