Role Overview
The Principal Integration & Data Platform Engineer leads the design and evolution of the company’s enterprise integration and data platform.
This role operates at the intersection of enterprise applications, manufacturing systems, and analytics infrastructure. The position combines architecture, hands-on engineering, and technical leadership to ensure reliable data movement and system interoperability across the organization.
The Principal Engineer helps shape how information flows across the company — connecting ERP systems, SaaS platforms, manufacturing technologies, and analytics environments into a cohesive and reliable data ecosystem.
This role provides senior technical leadership and works closely with enterprise applications, manufacturing engineering, and analytics stakeholders to translate operational needs into scalable technical solutions.
While this role influences technical direction and mentors engineers, people management and formal performance oversight remain with the Director of Enterprise Applications.
Mission
Design and operate the integration and data platform that connects enterprise applications, manufacturing systems, SaaS platforms, and analytics infrastructure across the company.
This platform enables operational automation, reliable data movement, and analytics capabilities that support business operations and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities

- Define integration patterns and architectural approaches for cross-system data flows
- Translate business and operational requirements into scalable technical designs
- Establish development standards and integration best practices
- Participate in platform and architecture decisions alongside IT leadership
- Mentor and guide engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and complex troubleshooting
Enterprise System Integration
Design and maintain integrations connecting core enterprise systems, including:
- Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations
- Tulip Manufacturing Software
- eMaint CMMS
- EDI trading partners
- Various SaaS platforms and operational systems
Integration solutions may involve APIs, event-driven messaging, data pipelines, and orchestration workflows.
Data Platform & Analytics Infrastructure
Lead development and evolution of the company’s analytics data platform.
Responsibilities include:
- Development of data pipelines supporting enterprise reporting
- Architecture and implementation of Microsoft Fabric-based analytics pipelines
- Integration with an existing SQL Server data warehouse and SSAS OLAP models
- Supporting Power BI semantic models and reporting infrastructure
- Improving reliability and maintainability of enterprise data pipelines
Manufacturing Data Integration
Collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to integrate operational data from production equipment and manufacturing systems.
Examples include telemetry and operational data flowing from PLC environments through systems such as Kepware, Azure IoT Hub, Event Hub, Stream Analytics, and Fabric.
Engineering teams manage the PLC layer; this role focuses on ingestion, orchestration, and integration with enterprise systems and analytics platforms.
Hands-On Engineering
This role is expected to remain highly hands-on and engaged in day-to-day engineering work, serving as a senior individual contributor.
Typical work may include:
- Building integration services and orchestration workflows
- Developing event-driven integrations and messaging pipelines
- Implementing data ingestion and transformation pipelines
- Troubleshooting complex cross-system issues
- Supporting enterprise automation and operational data infrastructure
Primary technologies currently include:
- C# / .NET
- SQL Server
- Azure Function Apps
- Logic Apps
- Azure Service Bus and messaging services
- Microsoft Fabric and Power BI
While familiarity with these technologies is helpful, success in this role depends more on strong systems thinking and the ability to learn new technologies than prior experience with any specific tool in our stack.
Operational Reliability
Ensure enterprise integrations and data pipelines operate reliably.
- Diagnose and resolve cross-system issues and pipeline failures
- Improve monitoring, observability, and troubleshooting capabilities
- Maintain documentation and operational knowledge of integration systems
- May require rare after-hours support for critical issues (no formal on-call rotation)
